Is it better to have small snacks throughout the day, or separated large meals?
For example, would it be healthier to, say, eat an apple, then an hour later have a sandwich, then another hour later eat some grapes, or to eat all three at once and then wait the 3 hours for another meal?

Small bits throughout the day helps speed up one’s metabolism.
But personally, I prefer the 3 big meals because I like the feeling of being comfortably full.
I always hear it’s better to eat a little several times a day. I generally have one meal and a snack of some sort later on.
It depends on your metabolism. Mine is very fast, so I have to eat smaller amounts regularly if I am active. Friends of mine are able to eat twice a day and are no worse off for it. Just find what is right for you.
I graze throughout the day and spent most of my adult life at 150–155 pounds.
What if I do both? :\
I eat two sizable meals a day (lunch and dinner), but I have small snacks in between and after. And yes, a lot of that is fruit, don’t worry. :)
5 small meals a day is the best way to go. If you go all day without eating, by dinner, you’ll binge and mess with your body’s breakdown of food.
I have breakfast at about 9am, then nothing else untill 8.30pm. IF I do snack I will have some salad or a biscuit in between.
…but I did hear somewhere that after a meal your body does a ‘sweep’ of your food… you set of the digestion process and if you eat again within 4 hours you stop the digestion process… could be totally wrong of course
because i am a hoss and love food as much as anything else in this world, i prefer to eat all day. i also think it’s why i eat so much and haven’t gained weigh despite the fact i dont exercise as much as i should. i think it keeps my metabolism going fast because i am literally always eating. i probably eat 8 “meals” a day. maybe one that makes me really full, but thats it. i love food. it is the spice of life and i see no reason to limit my intake :) lol
@lynneblundell I know nothing of that. Each part of the digestive system does its job as long as it has an agent to act upon. Remember the digestive system is also responsible for absorbing what you drink, so if what you have been told was correct you would have to drink infrequently too.
Another advantage to the smaller and more frequent approach is that it keeps ones blood sugar levels more stable so you’re not swinging back and forth with the highs and lows.
All the experts recommend grazing of small portions throughout the day.
Moo.
