If I rent a car would my bf be able to return the rented car for me?
He has a motorcycle but no car. I need to rent a car to get to the airport. I plan on him driving me there, and for him to go back to his city and return the rented car. Would they allow that or would I have to return it myself? I’m not sure how this works. I’m 21 if that helps you answer this question.

In most states you have to be 25 to rent a car. That is if you live in the United States. So I’m not sure you’d even be able to get your hands on a rental.
If the rental company offers something like an overnight dropbox, then your BF can return the car and use the dropbox to submit the return mileage and keys. The company will verify the mileage and fuel in the morning and charge your credit card accordingly.
You would have to pay an extra fee in order for your boyfriend to be able to drive the car. He would have to be present when you rent the car and show his drivers license.
If he is under 25, that will be a problem.
Like @marinelife says, you typically must pay extra to get permission to allow multiple drivers for your rental car (assuming you meet the minimum rental reqs – Avis will rent to drivers 21–24 y.o. with additional surcharge, limited areas, and limited vehicle selection).
That said, when a car is returned to the rental lot, no one checks id. They typically just ask if you filled up with gas and if you want to leave the charges on the card used when the car was picked up.
This should not a problem for you, providing you notify the car rental upfront of your driving circumstances. both you and your boyfriend will have to show your drivers license and both be a part of the rental contract. there is usually a small fee for this service. without the upfront agreement, the car rental could impose a hefty fine on you and your boyfriend.
Only if you take out additional cover for an additional driver.
Your boyfriend will have to sign on as an additional driver to the rental contract in order to be able to return it. He will have to meet the minimum rental requirements of the company (ie age, drivers license, credit card, etc) and there will most likely be an extra driver fee.
