NSFW Are women really not as visual as men?

OK so I was talking to one of my female friends the other day, and she maintains that women are just not aroused by visual images. She says that is why men are so into porn and most women just find it “eeh” (her phrase). I know you can’t generalize totally, but is the gap between men and women that big here?

Yeah pretty much. It’s biology.
Oh, I don’t know about that. I’ve seen some pretty good visuals in my time. :D
I am a visual person.no suprise,as I work as an artist
Nope, not true at all.
Men often get in trouble for looking when women look too, just for a shorter period of time. We just have a more photographic memory, and can be visualizing it while we’re still looking at you. ;)
It isn’t that it is “visual” it is that men and women have different stimuli. Generally a man is turned on by what he sees, a woman by what what she feels.
I like watching porn, especially proper good hard core porn. I love looking at my boyfriend’s body, I love looking at his penis. I’m very visual.
First off – porn isn’t about seeing what naked women look like, it’s about domination and exploitation. I don’t have a problem with it per se, but that’s what it’s about. When you’ve seen enough of it, you get that. You can make a distinction between porn and erotica, if you want to split hairs.
This being said – I used to race bicycles, and I’ve had more than one woman tell me I have a good ass. Seems that somebody is looking.
@Ichtehosaurus I guess I wasn’t specific enough in my workding I was thinking more about nudity, she was the one that mentioned porn
Show me nudity & I’ll look. ;-)
Not true in my case. I enjoy porn. And I enjoy seeing naked men.
There are women directing erotic movies/porn for women nowadays so some women must be watching. A good example was from a few years ago now called “The Red Shoe Diaries”. A cable series of half hour short stories each introduced by David Duchovny. His character had lost his girlfriend in the original movie and placed an ad in the paper asking for women to send them their stories. It was actually a great little series, and far from being exploititive, the stories were very empowering, the women characters won out in the end, none of them were victims. Worth checking out if you get a chance.
Back to the question though, do women like visuals. Certainly I do like looking at hubby, he has an amazing bum :-) We had an instore promotion a while ago for a certain brand of porridge oats, and they sent in a young, fit lad in a kilt and a white vest (folk in the UK will recogise the ads) and well lets just say that aisle was extremely popular with female customers, so yes, I do believe that women in general enjoy the visual as much as men do.
hugs everyone xx
All i’d say is women are certainly more visual pleasing to the cultured eye, grrrrrr…..
@Sophief “proper good hard core porn” I love what the UK has done with the English language.
I love watching porn, men and women, or women and women, its a great turn on. Never seem to be able to watch the whole thing.
I can get aroused by visuals, and also the written word. Or spoken, come to think of it.
Les all go to the nudey bar, bring your dollar bills.
I like to look at things, just not porn when dealing with sexuality. Give me my boyfriend naked in front of ame and I’ll stare at that all day!
I think Men and Women are visual.
But, (my opinion) generally Women feel what they see. Men lust.
I lust to feel. ;-)
I’d say I’m very visual and given that I was born female, this would apply.
@sophief Are you one of those “watchers” who always want to be able to see a dick going and out whilst having sex? Nothing wrong with that but easier for the guy to see more graphically. I think the views we (men) can set up during sex are better and closer to the action. I think most guys are “watchers”. Btw – what’s the best position for a female watcher or does it require the use of mirrors or recording apparatus?
I don’t entirely agree with your friend. Most women probably don’t like porn and other erotic imagery because it’s geared towards masculine tastes, not towards theirs. Women can be visual, too (I certainly am, and I know I’m not alone. As @Taciturnu said, women are just more discreet when we look at men.
Agree with @lonelydragon . There is a lot of visual erotic material now produced by women for women. Actually the versions aimed at men get rather monotonous; bang, bang, bang….
I’ve heard that (as a huge generalization) women don’t get very physically aroused by just seeing a naked guy. I.e. they like it, it’s sexy and all, but that it’s not very much like the way a guy’s sex drive just goes bing! and now he’s horny. It’s the difference between “Ooh, that’s sexy!” and “Whoops, my sex drive is now fully engaged, now what do I do?”
I know that if e.g. a woman momentarily falls out of her shirt, that 70% of my brain’s CPU time is instantly allocated to sexual matters, and hormones instantly begin responding. IOW I become instantly stupid. :) That’s what I think of when I read the question. Not “Can I get aroused by visuals,” but “Do visuals jump-start my sex drive whether I want them to or not?” I see guys reacting like that all the time, but not women. (dang!)
Im getting a visual right now!
Sexually, I’m more of an auditory girl. Dirty talking is great when it goes well. And when it doesn’t I end up in a fit of giggles which is counterproductive.
I enjoy sexy, but it doesn’t make me want to act on it.
