Why does listening to people give me a headache?
I can listen to music, machines, and other loud noises for a long time just fine, but when I have to listen to people talk for long periods of time I wind up with a headache. It doesn’t seem to matter what the lecture or conversation is about, even enjoyable ones seem to set off my head. Hell, I tried listening to an audio book last night and it felt like it was going to kill me.
What could be causing this? Why is it only human speech, and is there anything I can do or try to maybe get it to stop?

I feel like I certainly have this problem once in a while – there are however specific topics that are worse than others for me to hear about. Your condition sounds more severe and is more likely about something psychological.
I agree, sounds psychological. Or maybe the frequency of human speech sets something off. I don’t know, I wish I could help out a fellow squid.
Could be psychological, and It could be auditory. The human voice is generally in a certain range, I forget what it is now. Go see an Audiologist, tell him, have your hearing tested. If this is something relatively new, it could be indicative of something serious. Keep us posted!
Does listening to the human voice make you feel tense or nervous? If not, then I see no obvious psychological explanation. That does not mean there is not a more complex psychological explanation. I am a psychologist by training and I suggest you consider seeing one to discuss this problem. It seems to be interfering with your life.
You’re paying close attention to what is being said. Good on ya! Try to relax a little, a few deep breaths.
I used to feel that way many years ago when I smoked pot. It was like anything anyone said was irrelevant. But I don’t have the same reaction anymore, so I don’t know. Take some acid-just kidding.
