What is your beautician, barber or hair stylist's name?

Asked by charliecompany34 (7813points) April 29th, 2010

i find names intriguing, but more so with the names of people who style or cut hair. when you want a certain cut or style, who does the manager recommend? is the sound of his/her name exotic or common.

what can he or she do that nobody else can? ever feel like you cheated on your barber or beautician?

who waits for hours to get cut or styled by that “coif” specialist known by that “name.”

somebody asks, “oh wow, who cut your hair—i love it!” and you say the name like everybody should know where that place is.

Juanita from Dominican Essence Beauty Salon in Leffert Gardens, Brooklyn. And yes, she’s from the DR. She’s especially skilled in repairing damaged wavy/curly hair. Too many blowouts are no good, ladies!

charliecompany34's avatar

@aprilsimnel sounds like you are connected to your hair stylist. so am i. i hate waiting but my barber does not do appointments. his name is de’angelo and he does it just like i like it.

Yolanda, I’ve been going to her since I was 15, she’s never really recommended anything really, she just seems to get me. It’s funny to because when ever she’s cut my hair it grows back faster then when I’ve “cheated on her” with another stylist.

However, I know sometimes people end up in ruts and so I think I am now in search of a new hair dresser because our last visit 2 weeks ago was far from what she’s ever done for me. :o( I’m already sad.

charliecompany34's avatar

@CFi yeah, yolanda sounds like a name i’d recognize. the names sounds like she’s good at men’s hair too. is she?

hearkat's avatar

My stylist’s name is Desiree.

CFi's avatar

@charliecompany34 Actually she is! I met her because she would do my dad’s haircut and one day he asked her to do my hair and from then on Dad picked up my beauty tab :)
Until of course I got a job. Hahaha

charliecompany34's avatar

@hearkat dont you hate when your stylist tales a holiday or vacation right when you need to be hooked up for something special?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Her name’s Jody. And I was just asked yesterday who cuts my hair. :-)

hearkat's avatar

@charliecompany34: That hasn’t really happened to me. First of all, my hair and my lifestyle are very low-maintenance, so I have never needed to be “hooked-up” for anything. And she usually gives me advance warning if she’s taking a vacation.

charliecompany34's avatar

@CFi just seems like yolandas do hair for men. funny.

Jaime, and I see her tomorrow! The BEST haircuts I have ever had, she rocks!

charliecompany34's avatar

@Cfi: i cheated on my regular barber and have been going to de’angelo ever since. it’s a coiffure marriage. nobody else can cut my hair.

charliecompany34's avatar

@coloma: i will see de’angelo tomorrow too. people in the shop call him “Lo.”

Kathy :) She’s my aunt. She works at a high end salon and gives me a huge discount. Gotta love that.

charliecompany34's avatar

cheating on a barber is so wrong, but damn it feels so good

charliecompany34's avatar

@ItalianPrincess1217 well uh we need to know where kathy is exactly, huh?

Generally I get my hair colored to be dark – the colorist’s name is Rosa. When I get my hair cut, I go to Sue two chairs over (they both work at Studio 19, Brooklyn, NY) and when I need my bangs cut, I go to Yen at this hair salon by my house.

charliecompany34's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir wow, sounds like me grocery shopping on a saturday for produce here, meat there and spices somewhere else.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@charliecompany34 That’s Brooklyn for ya – it’s pretty multi-cultural.

Sasha. I grow my hair to the waist and then Sasha does a great braid, and cuts it off, to donate to LoveLocks. She’s very good at handling heavy hair.

Bartholomew.

Ummm…Tony…he knows how to cut my hair like a champ. Eleven bucks plus three for a tip and 15 minutes later I’m on my way.

Susie. She’s a tall leggy blond, very stereotypical. She has her own shop, so she can be as bawdy as she typically is. Men come in to just watch her work. You’re never bored when Susie works, it’s like a party. Her moniker around town is “Hair Goddess”. Cheesy but spot-on.

She takes no new clients, unless they come highly recommended. She doesn’t have to, she’s that good. I’ve used her for years, and nobody else touches my hair.

Bob. It’s so generic I can’t help but smile.

Cheryl (She’s British and for some reason they say her name like this “Chair-ul”. They call her Chegs (nickname), as well.

I’ll let you know the moment I find someone who can cut my hair right. I have on a few occassions but I move so much that I offen have to start the search again. Go through a few bad years of haircuts, finally find someone who can cut hair and then I move again or they moved on and opened their own salon. Sucks.

Liz.
That’s me =)

deni's avatar

CRYSTAL. She was amazing. I miss her. I haven’t got a haircut since I moved because I’m scared of letting anyone else touch my hair. THEY NEVER FUCKING LISTEN. WHAT AM I PAYING YOU FOR IF YOU GIVE ME A HAIRSTYLE I HATE?!?!!??!?

Elena. She’s my neighbor and old family friend. Used to do special FX makeup for hollywood movies and owns a beauty school with her mother. Before I got my hair cut by a friend named Martin who tragically lost his struggle with AIDS 5 years ago.

Dena.
She’s been my best friend since we were 16. I allowed her to do all sorts of things to my hair when she was in beauty school. It paid off. She’s amazing.

I’ve never noticed.
The last Barber I knew on a first name basis was Pete, when I was 4 years old.

I love answering this question! I have two hairstylists whose names are Heru and Bimo, the former specializes in long hair styling while the later is fab for short hair do. For facial treatment and such, there are these two wonderful ladies: Ika and Titi. I’m so happy to have their assistance, I’ve been with them for almost 15 years now, bless them! :)

Terry, co-owner of Ilo in Georgetown—He also teaches hair cutting/styling. He really feels what the hair does.

charliecompany34's avatar

@frolix: i was waiting for exotic names and you finally came thru. was expecting a “flavio” in this thread, but hey, your names are better!

frolix's avatar

@charliecompany34 hahaha, these are real names, real people :)

Sophief's avatar

My hairdresser is called Donna, and I don’t know my beautician’s name as I have never asked her.
