What shoes would go well with dresses while not killing my feet?
I often wear dresses and skirts for work. I love ladies shoes with heels. I seem to have overdone wearing the high heels and being on my feet for long periods. It feels like I have tendonitis in my achilis tendon or something. My dogs ache and I need to put the spikey pretty high heels away and find something sensible for a while. What shoes would be comfy but still dressy enough to wear with skirts? Sneakers would be too casual and would look odd. I want something pretty and comfy. Any recommendations?

First I’ll say you probably need to put the pointed closed toe spike heels away for good; you’ll hear this if you go to the podiatrist.
I don’t really know what’s “in style” for wearing with skirts now, but I would look for low heels or flats. Summer is easy because you can usually find sandals that work with dresses and skirts (not suits).
I’m glad to be retired.
I like a nice pair of pumps with my dresses.
If you are a bit of a tomboy, you could consider wearing these under a dress.
@rebbel combat boots under a dress? lol
@thriftymaid I do have some sandals and just thought them too casual. They might work now that you mention it, it doesn’t sound so bad (not half as bad as combat boots). Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, i know, i have some out of the ordinary turn ons.
The Mary Jane style can be really cute and even classy sometimes.
I’ve always been one of those people who would rather buy cheap and have more (like BOGO at Payless whooo hoooo!!!) BUT Ive learned that there are a few things in life when spending a little extra $ is WELL worth it (like mattresses and spikey heels!!). I’ve sprung for a couple pairs of GOOD heels. Sexy but comfortable. I spent over $100 each for them, but I notice a huge difference!
Well, almost everything is more comfortable than the shoes you’re wearing now. I work standing up all day, but still want my shoes to look nice, so I wear ballet flats or moccasins.
I think Sofft brand does a good job of combining style and comfort.
Ballet slippers, Mary Janes
Bear in mind that sandals or flats can be just as bad for your feet as heels. Look for arch support.
“SAS” has some very nice shoes. I suggest the style called easier
Sometimes it’s the brand of shoe that makes the difference. Stay away from cheap shoes. There are lots of cute shoes with 2 – 2–½ inch heels. Make sure that you buy shoes where the balls of your feet are sitting firmly on ground, and the toe box is wide enough across the ball of your foot to accommodate the pressure.
The other thing you can do is keep heels in your desk at work and wear flats into the office, and when you go out to lunch. Most of the women I work with have anywhere from 3 -12 pairs of shoes in the drawer at their desks.
I would recommend some kitten heels, perhaps with peep toe so you can still feel flirty and fun. As for sandals- look for ones with classic lines and a teeny bit of heel so you don’t look like you’re sinking through the ground. Which, can happen easily when one gives up the tall heels.
Some people have sensitive feet, so I’m not sure how sensitive your feet are, BUT if most shoes work for you, you could give some cute flats a try, or sandals (like the recent “gladiator” looking sandals that are in style) those seem to look really good with dresses/skirts. :)
Thanks everyone! I do like the look of mary janes and ballet flats. Some sandals actually look dressier than others too. I will use this as an excuse to do some serious shopping this weekend!~ I love shopping anyway. I have a better idea what to look for. Thank you all very much! Here’s to girly but comfortable footwear. :) My feet need some TLC.
Something like this? I have them in black Nubuck and have worn them to the opera with a long dress when my regular dressy shoes would have killed me.
Dansko in “Sissy” or some of their other dressier styles.
