Is it strange to date a friends brother or sister that is like family?

Asked by staffordB (5points) May 1st, 2010

How do you keep it friends when they are attracked to you? I just dont want it to be weird after. Then I want like being around my friend or family. What do I do?

Friendzone.

So you have a friend’s sibling who is attracted to you? That’s the question? How old are you? If it’s a teen-aged crush, don’t date him/her. Simply say that you want to remain friends with everyone.

Otherwise, you might have a mess on your hands when the romance either ends or doesn’t work out.

Then you’re old enough to simply not do it.

I wouldn’t take things any further with him/her. If things didn’t work out, then there could be major problems.
Just stay friends.

You are an adult. If you and this friend’s sibling are “attracked” to each other, I see no reason not to pursue it. Just know if it ends badly you may lose the friend as well as the boyfriend.

I agree with @thriftymaid. If you all get along like family, how much better can it be? But yeah, I’d be careful. If it doesn’t work out, it could ruin things for everyone.

I’ve seen a relationship break up a former group of friends. I’ve never seen it work, but that doesn’t mean it wont. Maybe you’ll lose the group of friends, but gain something more meaningful that isn’t as easy to plan out, something meant to be that you just got to let happen. That is, if it’s meant to be.

I wouldn’t recommend it. Things could get really ugly.

Then again, in situations like these, external advice typically matters very little. Nevertheless, I wish you all the best.

I think it depends on how long and how well you know the friend, how often you see each other, and if the friend is in a relationship.
