I got a nice, fairly old zippo from Vancouver last year, and the damn thing always dries up. I saw another and noticed that is had a hard rubber-ish tab that went over the wool, that mine doesn’t. What would be a good diy fix for this, because I can’t order online or buy lighter related products.

Maybe cut a rubber glove into small squares & then layer them, glueing them together. Then once that big square of layers dries, cut out the size you need & pop it in. That is my immediate thought. If I think of another, I’ll write back.
If it’s a Zippo Windproof Lighter, Zippo will repair it for free
Your lighter will be repaired at no charge and returned promptly, usually within 5 – 6 weeks.
Our Repair Clinic performs excellent repairs at no charge. Please do not attempt to perform repairs yourself, as it could damage the lighter beyond repair.
Don’t you need a receipt?
Nope; no receipt needed. Look at the website. They have very specific instructions as to how to pack and send the lighter. Zippos come with a lifetime guarantee.
