If I were to volunteer to work at a blood drive, what are a list of duties that I could do?

Asked by mass_pike4 (2096points) May 3rd, 2010

I want to help out as a volunteer at a blood drive. I do not believe I would be able to handle the blood obviously, but what are some duties that they would have me do?

You can go here to check out the expectations of American Red Cross volunteers – maybe that’s a good starting point for you? Good luck.

Set up, and take down would be a big deal probably. I am thinking like unfolding tables and chairs, setting up dividers, hauling boxes of supplies into the building, etc. They also usually lay out refreshments, so people can get a little strength back by eating something after giving blood. I know I usually see some ladies stocking a refreshment table with cookies and drinks or something like that. That’s about all I can think of but I am sure if you ask them, they would tell you where they needed help.

I’ve only donated once, on September 12, 2001. The line was around the block and they had a ton of volunteers doing whatever you could think of. Though, that was a big whopping deal, so I guess it wouldn’t be quite as busy. Heck, when I went, they had “babysitters” just to make sure everyone stayed the proper amount of time after, drank their juice, and ate their cookie.

Registration/paper work.

Sign people in, check the paperwork, move people to the right places, hand out cookies and orange juice.
