How was this website made?

What would I need to do to make a website in that style? Would it be difficult?

I looked at the source and it’s fairly simple, at least in terms of the layout, which is basic CSS. Then they used Perl (programming language) to handle the form inputs and to spit out an answer at the end. For that, you need to have a server that accepts and can run a Perl interpreter. I have a feeling you probably could find some free Perl scripts online for form handling, which you could then modify to suit your specific website.

The easiness of this really depends on your level of comfort in terms of web publishing, handling a bit of programming, getting the script set up, etc. To me, the CSS is pretty damn easy, but you start to get out of my comfort level with the scripting, though I could figure it out with enough time. Someone who has no knowledge of coding or web publishing would probably find it more difficult.

@MissAnthrope actually, the CSS only comes into play with page formatting. The contents actually use PHP scripting language, which was very obvious because the pages end with .php rather than .htm .

I am guessing from your reply that you are not a particularly good programmer. As such, a fast alternative would be for you to write out a specification and outsource to a computer programmer from romania or india. That will get it done. Visit Elance.com or rentacoder.com or oDesk.com

It looks like you could do this with JavaScript, which clicks more easily with me.

In terms of content, the creators could have put more research into dowry in various cultures.

The layout is CSS, as I said, the basic page format. Scripting for the rest. Not sure why you feel the need to school me. I went a couple pages in and noted the forms use .pl. So… yeah.

@MissAnthrope Sorry if I touched a nerve… but it’s not so much of schooling you but simply setting the record straight. The OP’s question is very specific, wanting to know how the inner workings of the website. With or without CSS, the PHP scripting is the core of the websites dynamic nature.

I can understand flutherites’ eagerness to provide answers to questions but I just wish that when they do, they are thoroughly knowledgable and sure of the answers to avoid further misinformation.

@ChazMaz . . .and BTW, the website did say I am a 9, too.
