Canadian here; is there a way that I'd be able to listen to stuff on Pandora?

Asked by Jude (32204points) May 6th, 2010

“Dear Pandora Visitor,

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.

We believe that you are in Canada.”

Boo.

Links and such would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yup, it’s easy. You usually just have to connect to Pandora via a proxy. The software you use to do this depends on your operating system. Do you have a Mac or a PC?

PC.

And, I’m a technotard. How would I go about doing that?

Here – download and install Hotspot Shield. You probably won’t have to configure anything yourself – just install the software, click “connect” and when it says you’ve connected, you should be able to access Pandora.com.

(Let me know if you need help finding out how to connect – I’m on a Mac so the interface is slightly different but I can probably help you out.) Edit: A step-by-step guide to installation and connecting can be found here.

The only catch is that it adds an annoying banner to the top of every page you visit while you’re connected, but those can be closed.

There are other good sites out there like pandora. Have you checked out Last.fm or Grooveshark?

honestly, i think both of them are better than pandora.
