My daughter’s cat and dog live here but the cat is not a cuddler. My cat died almost 2 years ago now. I say no more animals but then I saw the pictures of kitties to give away. I emailed.

If you can afford to take care of it, and you think your other pets will get along with it, and you know it’ll be loved and cuddled, go for it!
Kittens are what God invented to keep us smilin’.
@poofandmook I know it will get cuddled!! and the others are happy with each other. @susanc ain’t that the truth- I could do with smiling more!
If the other cat is receptive to a new cat in the home (I know some kitties aren’t too pleased about things like that, not sure why/specific circumstances), and if you have the money, time and energy for a new (and young) pet, I say go for it.
Yeah, and throw a baby kitty shower, and have a fun time!!!
meowies on your mew addition to your family!
Of course you should do it! The other users have already stated the obvious practicalities, that your family and pets don’t mind, that you have enough money etc.. If that is all good and well why not make yourself happy? Are you just a gluten for punishment?
@RedPowerLady hello, stranger!! I’ve actually wanted my own kitty for a couple of years so maybe a little glutton.
Several studies have indicated that having pets leads to a longer healthier life. Go for it.
What everyone else said, and I think that a kitty could be a great companion both for you and for the other cat in your home.
@faye Hello! Glutton is chocolate and cookies, yum. Kitties make you live longer. Hehe.
How old is the other cat, though?
The only reason not to get a kitten is if it really stresses out the other cat, and as a result, all the animals are bummed because of it.
@andrew There are several techniques to socialize a new pet into a household. Most animals won’t be stressed and will at least tolerate a new arrival that is properly introduced. Most enjoy the company, especially if the house is empty for 8–9 hours a day.
and when animals are bummed, they mark
Perhaps you can volunteer foster for a kitteh shelter to test the cat’s and dog’s reaction to a new friend?
@aprilsimnel: Your avatar is so cute it hurts my heart. And I might resent not having the cutest kitty avatar now. Hmpf
Paris the cat is about 7 and Gator the little dog is about 6. They’ve both been around more animals. Paris’ brother died.
@poofandmook – I’m allergic :( To make up for it, I get the cutest kitteh avatars I can find, Michael Palin in drag occasionally notwithstanding.
Go for it. My two “fur people” (Persians; Angel and Simba) are all the love I have now.
* * * Y E S * * * Be sure to follow the advice above to introduce the new kitty into the household, and consider, maybe, getting two.
@YARNLADY has a very good point about getting two. The other animals are much older than the kitten, and will eventually pass and leave the kitten alone. If you get two, they grow up together and have companionship. I was only going to take the Poof, but then I felt bad that she wouldn’t have a playmate, so I took her sister too.
Lordy, I was concerned about getting 1 and now I’m getting 2?!!!
@faye Yes, two is better than one.
Aren’t cats a more solitary pet? My Lacey really blossomed when all the other animals were gone.
@faye: If they’re from the same litter and they’ve never been separated, not so much. My girls are always in a pile together. Looks like a giant orange ball of fur with two heads.
@faye While not exactly a pack animal like canines, domesticated cats often do prefer some companionship among their own kind.
Can you give a kitten a clean and loving home? Provide medical treatment and food? Will you give the kitten attention each day? If so, get a kitty!!!
The owner and I meet tomorrow at about 3:30— I will have a new kitty. Now for the name? -a little male, I think.
Once you get him home he will reveal his name to you. Don’t be in too much of a hurry to name him until you get him.
Get them. There’s a kitten surplus right now and they need homes and love. And you need them, too.
yes, time for a new pal. meow….....
chester
I like Chester- reminds me of the deputy in Gunsmoke!! He was a nice guy.
New kittens require a lot of your time. If you have it to give and your other pets are relatively well adjusted then I say go for it! I often wish I could have a new baby in the house. But alas, I have two toms in too small a NYC space.
All i have is time so I’m thinking I’ll put a little cute into it.
I think you will be happy you did.
@andrew: I really think you should have to post a disclaimer before you post something so darn cute. I mean, I’m just in my cubicle trying to wake up and all of a sudden my heart stops? So not fair.
Yes, that is basil. He’s amazing.
Here is RH playing fetch with him.
What I meant to say, faye, is that you MUST post pictures of your little nubbin. Like this.
Okay, I will learn how. I saw the kittens today and want them all! The lady is going to bring mine in next Thursday- she read they should be with mom until 8 weeks old. So I have time to buy kitten toys.
Pokékittehs! Gotta get them all, eh? :D
When I had a cat as a girl, she loved it when I tied huge balls of newspapers to some twine and dragged them across the floor for her to bat at with her paws.
@aprilsimnel wanted them all- just getting one. Good trick with newspapers- I’m going to try that.
Please do remember how kittens like to play.
Today, that lovely soft fluffball in the pictures I posted decided 4am was a good time to play with my feet under the sheets. When I jerked my foot away in surprise, her claw got stuck in the skin between my pinky and 4th toe and ripped.
It hurts.
And she’s about 5 years old. Kittens play much more. She’s lucky she’s so soft and pretty! D:<
There is nothing more calming than a kitten’s soft purr.
