I'm having trouble recieving a direct deposit into my account, what should I do?

Asked by truecomedian (3937points) May 6th, 2010

I called the sender and they confirmed that it was sent a week ago to my account, but it’s not in my account yet. I’ve talked to the bank and the sender, and I’m getting the run-around. Why would it take this long for this deposit to go through? It’s the first time using Direct Deposit, and the bank is telling me to just wait, but I need my cash. Thanks

I know that generally speaking the first one can take longer than usual as they are getting everything set up. Does your bank acknowledge a pending deposit at all? If not I would go over all of your information with the sender to be sure that they got all of the information correct. Then I would have them check to be sure that their bank has all the correct information as well. How long has this deposit been in the process of happening?

I would sit down with either the sender or receiver and make phone calls until the problem is resolved.

Be patient, be calm, be friendly. That can be tough when people are messing with your money, but it really works to get people working for you.

Call your bank during the regular hours and ask them.

I waited a very long time for a cheque once because 1 number in the deposit number the cheque was written too was wrong. They had my voided cheque but human error got in there transposing it. Ask the sender to go over the numbers with you.

verify the account information…..with the sender.

payroll – usually easily fixed
IRS – a bit longer

I agree that you need to verify the information. It should not take more than a week unless there is something incorrect about the information you provided. For example, the routing number for your bank is different on a check than it is on a checking deposit, even though the account number is the same. If you provided information off a check instead of furnishing a deposit slip that could delay things.
