It’s been on the radio for a longish time but I just started registering it. ”.. as we walked in fields of gold.” But the beginning has something about “fields of…ali”. Bali? Holly?
Molly? Pyewacket?

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
So she took her love for to gaze awhile
Among the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
And you can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We will walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We will walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
As you lie in fields of gold
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
It’s by Sting from his 1993 album Ten Summoners’ Tales. There are probably cover versions, as well.
(And Eva Cassidy. Her version is better. :D)
Sting wrote the song after he bought a house next to a field of barley.
♥ Sting, and getting to see him perform at Earth Day was surreal
then I had to rush off and go to work
Oh, BARLEY!!!
Good lord. I was going through the alphabet, Bali collie dolly (Dalai, Dali) folly golly holly jolly Kali…. but I forgot Brits don’t pronounce their R’s. Thank you all very, very much.
My husband had a musician record this song for me for my birthday. He’s a fav singer from a band in Australia…. http://www.myspace.com/simonwatsonmusic (number 24 on the list) it was recorded just for me. I love it.
I remember when my husband (then boyfriend) would walk home from the park, and the street lights were a golden color that shone on us. We would hold hands, and I knew he was my lighthouse. We still take evening walks. And when we do, I think of this song as we walk underneath the golden street lights.
@MrsDufresne – I love it that the need to serve science (not outshining the stars Mt Palomar’s telescopes are watching), has forced the City of San Diego to provide you and your husband (then boyfriend) with romantic lighting. Sweet and double sweet.
