Can anyone give me some good chill songs that I can fall asleep to?
I am trying to put together a “rest” mix that I can nap/sleep to, so the songs need to be real chill. For example, I’ve got “Cortez the Killer” Neil Young, “Speak To Me/Breathe” Pink Floyd, “Intro” The XX, “Your Hand in Mine” Explosions in the Sky, and “Lenny” SRV.
I’m looking for chill instrumentals above all if anyone could point me in that direction. Otherwise, shoot…

Try La Femme d’Argent.
It’s an instrumental and very chill. Though mostly anything by Air is. :)
@chels: Wow. God stuff. I’ve never heard Air. I’m already fallen for it
Jack Johnson has been putting me to sleep lately. As in he’s become a monotonous pop drag. But his early stuff is good.
Anything off the album Colma(album) by Buckethead. He made the album for his mother so that she would have something to listen to while recovering from colon cancer. It has a lot of acoustic guitar and it’s oddly calming while staying energetic like most of his blistering, face melting riffs.
Ah but of course, Debussy’s Clair de Lune. The original chill song.
Sufjan Stevens, Nick Drake (a bit overdone these days but still good), Alexi Murdoch- something beautiful
Go to www.somafm.com and choose Drone Zone.
Or go to www.sleepbot.com and choose Sleepbot Environmental
Or get any song on the album Sea Biscuit by Spacetime Continuum
Thomas Dybdahl is really good and really chilling. “One Day You’ll Dance For Me New York”.
Mountain Eerie is also a really good lofi band.
Köln Koncert by Keith Jarrett
and Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
The Point by Nilsson is a great album to fall asleep to :-)
I see you listed “Cortez the Killer” by Neil Young in your question. Try the cover by Dave Matthews Band.
@jfos: oh yes! I love that song, not necessarily a chill song though. Warren Haynes goes nuts on those solos!
@mass_pike4 Yes he does. I think it is chill—the solos are jamming, but very melodic, as are the vocal patterns and music.
GreenDay 21 Guns which is a bit energetic but puts me to sleep. (My usual genre is heavy rock.)
I had an Enya cd once, and I never made it past two songs before falling asleep. If you’re looking for something to sleep to, I’d definitely recommend Enya. Otherwise, for me, anything by I Am Ghost does the trick.
Awesome, great lists! Thanks guys! I’ve got some for ya’ll:
Gravity – John Mayer
Aqueous Transmission – Incubus
Let You Down – Dave Matthews Band
High and Dry – Radiohead
Planet Caravan – Black Sabbath
Do You Feel Me – Anthony Hamilton
Treefingers – Radiohead
Enjoy!
@DrasticDreamer – Glad to see there’s another Trespassers William fan here. I love them.. their music is very chill. They remind me a bit of Mazzy Star, who is also great and very chill.
@mass_pike4 – I know you’re looking for instrumentals.. I am about to walk out the door and don’t have time to look for them.. however, when I read your question, one song above all popped into my head, so I wanted to share. :)
Incubus – Aqueous Transmission
EDIT: Dang, you beat me to it. Haha.
@MissAnthrope: Ha well great minds think alike and what a great song it is
Sweet Baby James or almost anything by James Taylor
Yes, Sabbath’s Planet Caravan is definitely a good song to just sleep to.
Electric Wizard’s Saturnine puts my mind at ease.
I also love Velvet Underground’s Sunday Morning
@mass_pike4
Treefingers is great. The Extended version of it is even better for sleeping.
