Experience with laughter yoga?

Asked by PandoraBoxx (18031points) May 8th, 2010

Has anyone on Fluther had experience with participation in laughter yoga? What’s it like? Do/did you find it beneficial?

I myself have not, nor had I ever heard of it until now. Saying that it does look like fun certainly no harm can come of it. I’d insist on a nearby toilet however. Laughter is proported to have medicinal qualities so why not?Ha ha ha ha it’s working already.

My best friends therapist is a yoga instructor and does the laughter yoga. I went once, and it is really fun. Basically what she had us do was the lotus position, and just think of things that we have expirenced and think about it. I have to say it is a little weird, but hey, laughter is the best medicine.
But they do other positions, I just don’t know the names of them, and I am not flexible enough to do most of them, which made me laugh. But I say go for it, try it once and see if you like it.

I haven’t personally, but I was in yoga class once when someone began laughing and the instructor encouraged us to join her. It was kind of fun!

I went to a workshop that did this as part of the program and it was literally a riot! Everybody there was really into it and yes we laughed and it was such a release that I have never felt in any other yoga program. Not something I would do often but once a month would be very therapeutic! Everybody should try it at least once!

I’d love to try this as I’m always thinking that I should laugh more…but but not many things actually make me laugh…definitely something to look into thank you!! xx

I’ve never intentionally gone to laughter yoga or even seen a class that was that specific, but it has happened spontaneously in many classes I’ve been to, especially longer retreats and meditation-heavy stuff. It brings out so much joy that inevitably someone starts cracking up, can’t stop, and before long we’re all laughing hysterically!! Nothing, in the world, makes you feel better.

I have often heard of this type of yoga, and have tried it one time or so. I don’t really like it though. It maybe good for some people, but it’s not for everyone.
