What little tricks does your dog perform that are especially high on the awww bless scale?

A little more than the usual paw shaking or roll overs, meritorious & cute as they are. I’m looking for that unique party piece that your dog does for you, the wow factor has to be high. My dog Penny, she’s eight month old by the way, lies on her back & brings her paws up to her eyes hiding herself. She then peeks through giving that look that makes me melt, bless. How about your canine cuties?

Not the dog I have now (we’re still working on this one) but my last dog Tank did a really good “play dead.” But at some point he modified the trick (it’s the only way I can explain it.)
I’d tell him “play dead” and he’d lie on his side motionless. If I didn’t say anything, about 20 seconds into it, he’d lift just his head slightly.
I’d say, “Dead dogs don’t move,” and he’d go limp again until I said ok. (“OK” has always been my general release word.)
At some point it became part of the trick, because it was just so cute to see him go limp again. :)
Tank would also bring me a shoe when he wanted to go for walkies. But just one. I never could teach him to bring me the other one though. I still miss that dog. :)
Radar (my current dog) hasn’t progressed that far in his training yet. He’s got an excellent sit-down-stay, and will “touch” things when asked (once he got the point of looking past a pointing finger), bring me his harness, and do a “paw tap” (more like a high five than a shake).
His training has been slower because he’s the first dog I’ve had that was terrified of a clicker. He’s a rescue—I don’t know what happened to him in his former life but he absolutely shuts down when he hears a clicker. It was awful to see. He’s gotten better about it now, but I gave up using it for training.
If she understands covering her eyes, perhaps you can teach her to say her prayers. I think that’s an adorable trick.
Tank goes off the aww bless scale with that neat trick. Thanks for your intriguing answer.
I have a giant dog (140lbs). He high fives and smiles. He is also the raddest thing alive.
Dogs are just amazing creatures. Willing to do nearly anything to please us, once they figure out what it is we asked for (not what we wanted, which is not always the same thing.)
Mine doesn’t do any single trick that’s especially amazing, but she knows a bunch of standards (shake, lay down, roll over, high-5, etc). I LOVE that when we’re holding a treat in front of her and not saying anything, she goes through them all in rapid succession, trying to figure out what will get her the yummy.
@Likeradar The trainers call that “throwing behaviors” and I agree it is so cute! Hmm. This one? Maybe if I do this? How about this? Come on, gimme the treat!
If I tell Snickers to go study, he’ll grab the nearest book, nudge it open to a random page, & stare at the words. He even moves his eyes like he’s reading!
Animals are smart. They just speak a different language than us.
Except for pigeons. One just slammed into my window as I’m typing this.
Well, Hoss is young yet, and I have no idea how to train a dog, so he’s pretty much stuck at “sit, paw, other paw”, and about halfway to playing a good game of fetch. He walks well though, on and off leash.
My husband’s old pit/rottie mix, Bub (who passed away almost two years ago), was awesome. He would box (rear up on hind legs and bat at you with his front paws. Then he’d duck your punches). He would randomly start to sing to you “Rawwooo! Raw raww-ooo…”, and when his song was done, would shout “I love you” – well, “Rai rove roo!!” then jump up and give you a hug. He’d fetch anything out of the ocean. You could throw a stick a mile out, and he’d swim out there and bring it back.
And he’d drink beer. But only imports. Seriously, he knew the difference. No American beer for old Bub.
He brings in his ball and puts it in my lap, I throw it, he brings it back and puts it in my lap – over and over and over until it drives me crazy. He also loves to jump up in the air and catch the ball. Right now, the poor little guy has a cast on his leg. I don’t know how, but he broke his toes.
When I was little, I had a dog named pumpkin, and I would tell her “time for bed,” and she would jump on my bed, and force her way under my blankets, and lay on her back with her front paws on top of the blanket and her head on my pillow. I was so cute.
My Staffy can “High Five” on command which is really cute and my Jack Russell can “dance” on her back legs.
One of our old Collies who has since passed away used to jump up into our arms whenever we clapped. He was an amazing agility dog and that would often signal the end of his routine.
My dog doesn’t do any “cute” tricks but she’s very obedient. When I put her dinner down she doesn’t start eating til I say so. I can tell her to lie down and put a treat on her paw and she will just look at me and wait for me to tell her to take it.
SHE SINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CUTEST THING EVER!!
@downtide Do you ever worry that you might not be there for her?
@YARNLADY she takes instruction from whoever feeds her, so if I’m out and its someone else in the family she doesn’t wait for me to get home. :)
Our baby Jade high 5’s, carries her little blankie around with her, even up to bed at night. She loves to play fetch, will bring me one of her toys, drop it at my feet or in my lap, then walk off a little ways, sits down and waits for me to throw it. It’s not a trick but she cuddles her little reindeer stuffie when she goes to sleep and loves to be covered up with her blankie. Too cute :-)
