Do you believe that police officers, with tattoos, are intimidating?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) May 9th, 2010

You are stopped for a traffic violation. the officer approaches your vehicle to ask for your drivers license and proof of insurance. you are upset, simply because of being stopped. you notice that the officer has tattoos up and down both arms. at this point, what is your inintial opinion of the officer? are his tattoos intimidating to you or does this give you less respect for the officer, because of his tatoos? or, do you believe his tattoos give him a “macho” effect?

The tattoos don’t change the fact that some cops just scare the ever-loving shit out of me. The body markings don’t matter to me. Hubbs has tons of them and he’s the best ever. Hell, I have tattoos.

A cop with no hint of humanity left in him from being ground down for so long? That scares the crap outta me.

Yes, I would be intimidated, I would probably think he was a bent cop or something.

A cop with two full sleeves? I’d think him a hypocrite for wanting to look like an alternative person, while getting paid for wearing a uniform and oppressing the public. Douchebag.

I thought cops always wore long sleeves. I must not have been getting enough speeding tickets.

@susanc In my county, you’re lucky if they wait until they’re in uniform and in a cruiser to stop you.

The reason i asked this question? my department is very strict on personal appearance. we are allowed only to wear a wrist watch and no gold, except for a wedding band. tattoos in my department? at the moment, this situation is being debated. my department is one of only a few accredited police departments in the nation. the requirements for accreditation are very strict and we are checked and tested every two yers. the outcome should be interesting.

Tattoos on anyone would not bother me at all. I would not question a persons ability to do their job just because they have tattoos. I know a lot of people that are very into body art and they really consider their body to be their canvas. There’s nothing wrong or scary about that.

Ha, no more than I think mine are intimidating and my tats can beat out any ones of theirs.

I’m not intimidated very easily, so no. I’d just be annoyed as I am with any other cop.

you know some of the nicest people i ever met were heavy tattooed, you shouldn’t judge people by the color (or tattoos) on their skin. He could have had a really good story behind them.

And yeah cops do have short sleeves in locations where it is usually warmer, remember Reno 911. Yeah bad example.

The only tattooed people I find intimidating are those that have skinhead or gang tattoos.

No…looks, size, tone of voice, etc… has never intimidated me…a person that very knowledgeable and professional is more intimidating to me!

If the officer said ‘I am giving you a ticket but first I want you to see this tattoo on my ass.’ I might be worried.

I’ve never seen a police officer with a visible tattoo. I don’t know if they are allowed or not. I think the gun on the hip is intimidating enough for me.

Tattooed or not I don’t get intimidated by the po po. The way I see it, I pay their wages. They work for me, the public, and as far as I know they have to pull the pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us.

All police officers intimidate me. But I guess that’s because I don’t trust people
