Can you recommend me some good bands?

Asked by Draconess25 (4461points) May 9th, 2010

I want to find some new bands, but I don’t know how to go about it.

Here are my playlists, so you have an idea of what I like:

5

Also, what genre would you say I prefer? I can’t decide, since I like all kinds of music. It’s a tad exasperating to type out a whole list!

And don’t mention My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, Paramore, Mindless Self-Indulgence, Fallout Boy, Taylor Swift, The Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, or Miley Cyrus. Ugh!

Try the new “supergroup” Broken Bells. That’s DJ Dangermouse under his real name, Brian Burton, and the singer from The Shins, James Mercer.

I also like using Metacritic to check out new bands. They’re not so exclusively indie rock-oriented like Pitchfork, even though I’m an indie rock sort of chick.

You could use some more electronica in there.
The Crystal Method
Chemical Brothers
Daft Punk
Justice
Ratatat

As @aprilsimnel pointed out, you may like Broken Bells as well, but if you don’t like The Shins much they may not be to your fancy.

For more rock-oriented bands you may like Cage The Elephant, Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against The Machine or another supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures.

I could go on and on.

Also, your general music taste seems to be mostly hardcore, with some punk in there.

My taste in popular music fossilized in the 1970s, but here’s my list: Moody Blues, The Doors, Blue Oyster Cult, Creedance Clearwater Revival, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Renaissance. They range from screaming metal to mellow, but you probably get my drift.
