Will jailbraking my 3gs make it slow?

I just got a 3gs and I want to jaikbrake it but my friends said it made theirs really slow. Is this true and could it do anything worse?

It can make it more susceptible to worms, and I imagine that it would also slow it somewhat, although it should not be significant. I guess you need to consider how significant the advantages of doing it are, and weigh those up against the risks.
