What '90s Nickelodeon show am I thinking of?
I’m a child of the ‘90s, and as such, I had extensive exposure to the Golden Age of Nickelodeon television programming, particularly their action and physical challenge-oriented gameshows. I remember the names of most of these shows pretty accurately, but there is one in particular that, despite my research and excellent google-fu, I am unable to find the name of. Perhaps you can help me, Fluther? I recall the kid contestants on the show having to don very futuristic looking, sci-fi style gear, including a unique helmet and answering questions before running through a maze and being interrogated by a giant floating head on a screen. At the end of the show, the winner would cross their arms over their chest and a cheesy, 1995tastic animation of them rocketing into the cosmos would play.
So am I being a good little Freudian and fabricating these memories, or was this an actual show? If so, what was it called? Was it even aired on Nickelodeon, or was it *gasp, Cartoon Network? Thanks in advance, my Fluther lovelies.

Actual show; I remember watching an episode myself and wondering this very same thing some years back. Unfortunately, I can’t help you with the name of the show, the air dates, the station, the producers, the host, nada. Google has not helped.
Was it Legend of the Lost Temple? Does the name Olmec sound familiar? He was the rock thing that gave the clues before each challenge.
I don’t think it was Double Dare
Was it Guts? Pretty sure it isn’t
I don’t remember and I watched Nickelodeon all the time. But check this out you might find it there.
@Nullo, glad I’m not the only one!
@shego, It wasn’t Legends of the Hidden Temple, though I am pretty nostalgic about that show. It definitely wasn’t Double Dare or Guts. It had a much more sci-fi oriented theme with lots of special visual effects. Thanks for the link, though.
This may sound stupid, but could it possibly be Power Rangers?
Edit: Here is a list of the 10 greatest floating heads of all time. :)
@augustlan, ya know, I considered that, but I specifically remember disparate episodes which all followed the same rigid format, thus ruling out Power Rangers (which I loathed when I was little). If I remember correctly, the giant floating head was female, had a reddish hue, and had the same character as the Wizard of Oz head from the list you linked to me. Unfortunately, it’s not on the list, but that’s a neat resource though, so you have my thanks!
@simone54, google image turns up this image which is vaguely familiar. I’m starting to think that perhaps it was Nick Arcade that I am thinking of, but my mind has added other details from other shows and probably movies and such over time to create this weird pseudo-artificial memory I have.
I can’t believe I have no clue which show you’re talking about. Me and Nickelodeon in the 90s were BFF lol
@poofandmook, I know! Me too! do you remember the adventures of pete & pete?
was there pie and slime involved?
my friend thinks that it was Space Cases, but thats not a game show. So yeah u probably had mixed up the shows.
@nyc_air, no messiness. However, a google image search for Space Cases is bringing up some familiar imagery. I think you may be right.
OMFG! Nick Arcade! That was the best friggin’ game show, ever. Right up there with Legends of the Hidden Temple.
@Seek_Kolinahr, Legends of the Hidden Temple and The Adventures of Pete and Pete were probably my two favorites. I don’t really remember Nick Arcade though :-/
I think it pre-dated the Legends and the like. Very, very early 90s at the latest, though there were reruns for a while.
I never really got into Pete and Pete, but I loved Salute Your Shorts. ^_^ I was singing the theme song to that one the other day.
@Seek_Kolinahr, And when I think about you, it makes me wanna fart!
It’s “I hope we never part, now get it right or pay the price!”
They just don’t make kids’ shows the way they used to.
Now it’s all pop-stars this, and rich spoiled kids that, and wizards here… whatever happened to torturing your little brother and making a camp counselor’s life hell?
Don’t forget about Hey Dude!
It’s a little wild and a little strange, when you make your home out on the range.. so start your horse and come along, ‘cause you can’t get a ride if you can’t hold on… singin yippie kai yai yay (yippie kai yai what?) like the cowboys say… (sing it again now) yippie kai yai yay (get along little doggies) til the break of day.. (watch out for those jackrabbits, and that killer cactai. heeeeey duuuuuude!)
Hey Dude kicked ass.
Are you afraid of the Dark was a GREAT series too!
I loved the new Tomorrow People.
Ah, the golden age of Nickleodeon! the glory is departed.
Remember All That, it was my childhood Saturday Night Live
RIP Kel
why would you say “RIP Kel” if he’s still alive?
@poofandmook
omg FML i just relooked it up and it was a hoax
i feel so stupid
and i was even sad. face palm
@nyc_air LOL happens to the best of us! I had to look it up too.
And speaking of trolls, um, hello, nobody’s mentioned David The Gnome. How badass was he? And a troll named Pot? I miss that show so much.
Salute Your Shorts!! I know it’s off topic but I had to mention it in this amazing thread of wonderful 90ness. :) btw, there’s this site, but I just looked at it and it’s not like it used to be… may need to do some more research but it makes me happy.
I encourage off-topicness! This thread is now about nostalgia!
who’s the genius that came up with the name Donkey Lips? How freakin CLASSIC is that? And who didn’t want to go to Camp Anawanna?? I even have the Camp Anawanna t-shirt from bustedtees.com lol
David the Gnome! My very first Anime. That was the greatest!
Totally not Nickelodeon, but did anyone else ever watch “Beakman’s World” – basically the stoner version of Bill Nye the Science Guy? The proudest moment of my single-digit life was the day my question was featured on the show!
Oh! And Nickelodeon in the summer – with “Stick Stickley”.
@Seek_Kolinahr: Oh my gosh, Stick Stickley!! I forgot all about him! Oh what was that cartoon with the koalas? One was named Blinky and the other one was Pinky?
Kablaam was good too.
Remember the flesh? And melt man?
My daughter and I regularly watched the Nicktoons. My favourites were Aaahhh!!!! Real Monsters; KaBlam!; and Action League Now! The last one had touches of the satirical talent that made Walt Disney famous – remember the early Donald Duck cartoons? Why did they stop?
@bea2345: You just named the three Nicktoons I hated the most! lol
@poofandmook – ow! my bad. Would my taste in cartoons have anything to do with the fact that TV was unknown to me until I was 19? The only cartoons I saw were in the cinema before the main feature, and cinema was not a regular treat during my childhood.
@bea2345: A lot of kids liked those… just, not me. lol I wasn’t that type of kid.
Is it Kappatoo…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrVOYxNgmpc?
I loved Nick Arcade and Double Dare.
I think the show I am trying to remember may be a composite of Kappatoo and Nick Arcade that my young mind melded together. That’s the only real explanation I can think of. No single show has the characteristics I remember.
