I’m gonna say no. Wavy/ curly/ coily holler! hair is beautiful the way it is. Straight hair is pretty boring and plain in my opinion.
If you must straighten your hair, do not use any chemicals (relaxers). Use as little heat as possible, and not every day. Keep up with protein and moisture treatments, and trim your ends regularly.
You can have perms with large rollers to straighten kinky hair. I’m not sure how they last though.
Chemicals are never going to be the “healthy” option. Ever.
If you must have straight hair, use a straightening iron on the lowest setting that will work for you, and use a protective spray (like Thermasilk)
Totally jumping on the @papayalily & @Seek_Kolinahr wagon here. I have wavy hair that pretty much never waves in a way that could be considered aesthetically pleasing. I also have very healthy, shiny hair.
I wash my hair every other day and my regimen is to use Tresemme shampoo, conditioner, and mousse from their ‘heat protection’ line. Usually I’ll put the mousse in and blow-dry my hair, then use a straightening iron on the setting they recommend for my hair type (fine).
It works great for me, I get the straight look I want without using chemicals, and my hair seems pretty happy. :)
You could also try coiling it over VERY large rollers when it’s wet, and drying it on a low heat setting (if you blow dry your hair). That would save some wear and tear from blow drying & then using a flat iron. It also gives your straight hair body, which is a nice perk.
@Facade you really do have great hair :)
Straighten it as much as possible by brushing it while using the hair dryer. Then flat iron layer by layer spraying a protecting spray on each layer first.
The best way to keep from damaging your hair, if you your hair is long enough and you have the time, is to twist your hair up like a french twist then use a claw clip to keep it there. Leave it like that until it is dry – your hair will be barely wavy and much easier to iron straight with less damage.
Yeah.
Use a really gentle shampoo such as Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition.
Make sure it’s dry before you straighten. Use a low temp flat iron (around 160° celsius) and use a serum such as Chi Silk Infusion. Don’t straighten everyday, and don’t wash everyday. Washing your hair everyday strips the hair of natural oils which is no bueño.
