Dinner crisis. Help me and my boyfriend reach some common ground?

Asked by deni (23141points) May 10th, 2010

i love pizza. but i just had some today for lunch while on break at work. normally i would eat pizza twenty times a day if i could but i’ve been trying not to eat as much greasy food lately and since i just had it today already i want it even less.

what i am in the mood for for dinner is a stir fry involving mushrooms and broccoli definitely, maybe some peppers and onions and either chicken or catfish. i have neither chicken or fish though so i would have to go to the store, and i don’t have my bike right now so i can’t really get there in a timely manner.

issue: i just talked to my boyfriend and he requested that i make pizza dough since he is dying for pizza and will be home around 7, which is just enough time for the dough to rise. i absolutely don’t want pizza, and he absolutely doesn’t want a stir fry. the problem is i have the materials for pizza but not all the things for the stir fry i have in mind. of course it could still be made and be delicious but i’d love some fish too.
side note: we ate out a lot this weekend so neither of us wants to do that.

i know this is a silly question but we’re having a really hard time coming to a middle ground. i will usually just give in if i can’t decide but i refuse today. any suggestions? stir fry pizza is not a good suggestion so don’t try.

oh ps :) if you think this question isn’t worth your time then you should not have clicked on it. don’t leave me a comment to tell me so.

pss: if you think it’s rude that i don’t want comments about this being a dumb question, then please, also move on ;)

Order in. Chinese for you, Domino’s for him.

I know from an economic standpoint my solution sucks, but it’s all I can think of.

why cant i delete this question? i just made the decision that im not caving in on this one. i am putting my foot down in fact i am STOMPING my foot down on this one and not budging. if he wants pizza he can make the dough when he gets home and eat at 10 oclock while i am chalk full of delicious brocolli and various other vegetables that don’t make me feel like a fat slob when i eat a bunch of them unlike pizza lol

Sounds like he wants carbs. What if you made some kind of sausage/peppers/mushrooms/pasta dish with tomato sauce? Perhaps with cheese too? Maybe feta? Maybe a little basil and cayenne? Mmmmmm…..something like that.

How about a Calzone or a Stromboli, stuffed chock-full of non-greasy Ricotta, and lots of yummy veggies?

If you can’t come to a middle ground and neither of you wants to agree with the other, come up with a different idea for dinner all together.

@Seek_Kolinahr woah. thats actually a fantastic idea. you just blew my mind

::curtseys:: Why, thank you. ^_^

I see you live in Boulder. The Attic has a righteous hummus plate for only $6.50.

How about since you’re the one making dinner, you make whatever the hell you want and tell him to shut up and eat it? Next time he cooks, he can make whatever he wants. Problem solved.

deni's avatar

@cockswain i’ve never been there but thats funny because it’s like right beside my house! unfortunately i work at a restaurant that specializes in falafels, gyros, and hummus, so i’m around vats of that stuff all day and i can no longer stomach it :(

@Vunessuh valid point you have there. he usually does do the cooking though so i dont want to hold that against him. on the other hand, i ALWAYS make the popcorn….so….

How about a veggie pizza? Broccoli and all.

I have had this same problem on many occasions. normally for lunch, i would eat out. whatever i ate usually came from a restaurant. not knowing what i had for lunch, my wife would prepare a really nice meal for dinner. little did she know, on many occasions, that what she had cooked for dinner, was the same as my lunch for that day. what did i do? nothing. i sat at the dinner table and ate everything she had prepared. this is called keeping harmony in the family. we can’t always have our way. to this day, she has never know about the duplicate meals i had all those times.

Sometimes, you just have to swallow your pride and keep your mouth shut.

My suggestion to you is to have the pizza again. next time this issue comes up, remind your s/o that you gave in the last time and this time its his time to swallow his pride and have whatever you wish.

Does homemade pizza have to be greesy if you bake it? Get him to pick up some low fat cheese on the way back and make it with lots of vegies.

Also, @Seek_Kolinahr I haven’t seen anyone use the :: :: for actions in a while. Back from the days on AOL when I used to RP… oh the memories. Thanks ;)

Seek's avatar

Yay, text-based RPing! I miss those, too. I actually discovered Q&A sites very soon after MSN Groups closed down and all my roleplay groups vanished into the ether. ^_^

Ah, that explains it. I used :: :: for a while after RPing, but people got confused.

Also, funny story, I tried to get this girl I liked into RPing once… bad idea. I tried to teach her and the first thing she did was:
::Hi <Stick my real name in here.>::

At that point, I was so paranoid that I immediately left the room. ::sigh:: From then on she knew what a nerd I am (though now, I’m proud of it).

Ha ha… I have no recollection of ever being a “closeted” geek. In fact, I distinctly remember telling my first grade class at Show and Tell that “This is Donatello, the ninja turtle I’m going to marry someday.”

roundsquare's avatar

Haha. I love it, not only are you planning to marry a ninja turtle (geekiness level 3) but you picked Donnie (geekiness level 5). You were braver than I was.

Note: All geekiness levels in this post are official as of the time of writing but may change at any time without prior notice. You have been warned.

Hey, I picked the one that knows how to build a time machine. I was a smart little cookie. ^_^

It clearly seemed like he wanted something ‘Italian’ and you ‘chines’. This answer could be a little late in coming, and I’m sorry for that, but when this happens next time how about this.

Instead of pizza dough how about making plain spagetti dough? this way you can make raviollie/potstickers? raviolie you could stuff with meat, cheese, and serve with tomato sauce. the potstickers, you could stuff with your vegies and whatever you want, with a little bit of soy sauce on the side.

This way you both can sort of have it your way without really going all out cooking hours for two different altogether meals. ravioli and potstickers can be made along the same lines.

@maried63 good idea! ive never made those, and they sound fantastic
