Why doesn't my touch pad work on my laptop when I click things?

Movement is fine, but when I try to click or drag something it doesn’t work anymore. It worked an hour ago and it just stopped working. I didn’t even touch any controls…what could be the problem? How do I fix it? I have Windows Vista… Dell XPS M1130 if that helps.
