Should I buy ZUNE HD?
Hi,
I am thinking about buying ZUNE HD…
I have been interested in this device for a quite a while but as an owner of iphone and ipod touch I couldn’t spend another $200 on similar device…now I got rid of my ipod touch and looking to get new mp3 player and ZUNE HD is what I interested in the most
My main use of ZUNE will be listening to music but I am little worry about lack of application out there for ZUNE
so my question to you guys are:
1) how’s the music quality vs ipod touch??
2) is lacking apps bothering you??if so how bad??
3) anyone who have/had ipod touch would like this device?
4) do I have to sign up for that $15 monthly subscription to enjoy this device?? FYI) I listen to non-English musics a lot so don’t really need to download musics from them…
5) Does apps/movies/tv shows offered in marketplace depends on the location like itunes??
If you have any advice or opinion on ZUNE HD I would appreciate that as well
THANKS

If I bought mine mainly for music I would be disappointed. The equalizer is nonexistant, and the presets aren’t all that great. For video thought it can’t be beat.
Music: so so.
Video: awesome.
I don’t know anything about apps, I’m not that tech savvy.
@FutureMemory
From what I heard Zune has better sound quality…and I hope so cuz I am not happy with my iphone/ipod touch sound ..It’s not horrible but it’s not that great…. I have tried several earphones/headphones but can’t seem to enjoy the sound that much..and that’s why I am looking to get other mp3 player
I’ve never owned an iphone/ipod, but I can’t imagine the Zune HD having better sound. It’s decent, but not great. When I want to listen to music I grab my Creative Zen every time.
Another thing to keep in mind about the Zune is that you cannot easily operate it unless you’re holding it in your hand – you can forget trying to change the volume or the track if it’s in your pocket, for example. It’s a terrible mp3 player to exercise with.
@FutureMemory
Is Creative Zen really sound better than your Zune HD??
I thought Creative makes one of those cheap crappy mp3 player sold everywhere
My Creative Zen 32gig player has better sound than my Zune HD, hands down.
The Zune has fewer presets, NO equalizer, and NO bass boost. The presets on the Creative Zen are superior as well.
I have a 120GB Zune and I’m more than happy with the sound quality. Don’t care about the HD function, I’d rather have a bigger hard drive.
Oh and by the way,
1) Can’t compare as I’ve never used an iPod, I just know I’ve had two and they both sounded very good in my estimation.
2) Don’t care about apps, it’s a music player, doesn’t need em in my opinion
3) Can’t say, never used an iPod
4) No, no need whatsoever to buy the subscription service. I use it as storage for my music collection, ripped all my CDs to my hard drive and can access them via the Zune any time I want.
5) Not sure since I don’t use Marketplace
@dalepetrie
thanks for your opinion
how would you rate your music experience with Zune as scale of 1 to 10??
Most places online rate the music quality better on a zune then on an ipod, I don’t own a zune hd so I can’t say. I have, however, owned both the original zune and version 2 and I found the quality to be pretty good, probably only old iriver player would beat em.
What I can speak for though, is that Zune Pass is the single most awesome thing going on in the legal music space right now. I don’t even own a Zune anymore (dropped it a while back) but I still subscribe to it, but I’m a sucker for subscription services.
Also, the zune software thats running on the HD was hacked a couple of weeks ago so you’ll see a lot of interesting apps and things that people will be coming up with. There are some out already, think of it like a jailbroken ipod touch.
I think the zune is a great under-appreciated device.
If you’re gonna ask me why I don’t get one though…I’m waiting for Windows Phone 7, which will have full zune integration.
EDIT: For the simple answer, yes, get it. If you don’t like it you can just return it. That’s what Best Buy is for.
@joon1986 – I would give it a 9. I am not demanding of the highest fidelity for mobile music, the difference between CD quality and 128mps mp3s is really not all that detectable to my ear, it’s certainly not as big as the difference between the richness of the sound you get when playing vinyl vs. a CD…seems mostly what I lose by encoding my discs is volume. So, I rip all my CDs to 128mps MP3s and I can store about 3,000 full albums on my Zune.
I like its compact design, I like the way it looks what I don’t like is the included headphones, and to me, you get a good pair of headphones, it makes all the difference. I like the way I can organize my collection with it, and the options I have for playback. I don’t like how I can’t create playlists directly from my device. I also don’t like the ambiguous shutoff, often times I’ll try to use it and find the battery drained. But I love the screen that shows me the album art and song info, and to me it sounds every bit as good as if I’m listening to a CD in my car. So, I’m going with 9.
