What do I need to do to be on my own now that I'm 18?

Assuming you are in the U.S., go register to vote.

I can tell you what not to do: get arrested. You’re an adult now in the eyes of the law.

Get a shit load of credit cards and buy everything you’ve ever dreamed of, then spend the next 10 years paying it off and regretting your stupidity.

I’m not sure what the Netherlandic term for high school is, but you should have figured this out a couple of years ago with the help of your parents, teachers, etc. Do you have a job or some sort of reliable income? Are you a student at a university, if you get out of secondary school at 18? I need some more information to answer this.

When I turned 18 I was excited that I could vote provincially. I couldn’t vote federally until I was 19. Beyond that, nothing special about 18.

Road trip.

As for what you’re allowed to do as an 18 year old: voting, buying beer, and hiring porn. Maybe also deciding if you want to be a donor; not sure if you need to be 18 for that [0.51].
You’ll be allowed to get a driver’s license when you hit 21, I believe.

As for what you need to do: not all that much. You can continue to live with your mum and dad for a few more years if it suits you, and leave the bills and your insurance and everything to them for now. I’m a 22 year old student and I still haven’t moved out or become financially independent. I live in the Netherlands too.

Don’t get too hung up on 18 being some magic number of what you ‘should’ be doing.

Don’t ‘should’ on yourself.

My daughter did not move out till she was just shy of 22, it takes a lot to get out on your own these days, and you may be coming home again too. lol

You are a young adult, but don’t let anyone tell you what you ‘should’ or should not be doing right now.

It takes time for a blossom to fully flower, don’t stress if you are a bit of a late bloomer.
