How unusual is it that I have only lived in two places, twelve miles from each other?
I typically look at someone’s fluther before I respond to a question, and as I looked over the places I’ve lived section, it hit me. I live one county over from where I was born. I’ve traveled some, but how unusual is it to live in such a small area? It is New York State, so that may change, as bad as this state is governed. How many others have only lived in a few places?

i’ve lived other places, but come back home…...3 homes within 12 miles. not so unusual.
As a general rule, people are homebodys. they never leave their nest.
I have lived in the same city, same house for 40 years.
Some people are waunderers and some are not.
Well, I am definitely the exact opposite: I don’t think I’ve lived in the same city for more than 5 years ever, and my residences have spanned 3 continents. So, to have only lived in 2 places so close together is very weird to me.
That said, I find your situation enviable. You surely have very strong ties to your community, which is something that people tend to lack when moving around a lot. It was something I was always jealous of when I moved to a new place.
@bezdomnaya It is wierd in this day and age. I have really strong ties to the community, but that also means I can’t get away with anything. I have to behave all the time, which has it’s drawbacks. lol
I have now lived in 6 different homes and except for college 40 miles away I never lived more than 20 miles from where I was born.
I’ve lived in the same house all my life. My parents have owned this house since they got married, and my dad was living here for 7 years as a bachelor before they got married. So that’d mean he’s lived here for…32 years!
Many, many people never live very far from the home they were born into.
I think it is more usual for people to live close to where they were born. My sister has lived in the same house for over 30 years within 20 miles of where we were raised. I have lived in several states and many towns over the past 30 years.
I heard that most people end up living within 50 miles of where they were born. Right now, I’m living in the exact same house that I grew up in from the age of 4.
