My phone has an adaptive t9. If you’re using t9 and it doesn’t recognize a word, if you type out the word in t9 using fragments of other words the next time you use it, it will recognize it. Uh…that wasn’t clear. My phone has the option to switch between different words, as I think all t9 has to have, [like book and cook are both 2665] for this example we’re gonna call that button rotate and then theres also the > button that moves to the end of a word.

Let’s say I want to type the word Discombobulate. Obviously this is not a t9 word
So I start typing. I get out DISCO [34726] before it starts getting confused so at the end of disco I hit > and it starts a new word, without a space. Now I press 6, for some reason my phone wants to make it an o, so i have to rotate through to m. Now I have DISCOM, and press the > key. Now I type in BOB [262] and press > again. Now I’m at DISCOMBOB .. I press 8 and have to rotate through to get U. DISCOMBOBU. > LATE [5483]. And now I’ve got my word. After that message is sent, my t9 knows the word now. If I send a new message I get Discombo [34726626] and it suggests that the word I’m going for is discombobulate.

I hope that made sense, and maybe you already knew that, but a lot of my friends who use t9 are unaware about that. Good luck in using your big words!

@ Perchik I followed along, but I thais because I did the same thing with T9 on my old phone. You explained it better than I could have.

I’m pretty sure that’s the only way to do it, add words in yourself. Sometimes, after you type out the word, you have to go to a menu and select “save to dictionary” to be able to use it later.

Telephone pole: Hello skwerl88.. You look lovely tonight.
skwerl88: Who are you?
Telephone pole: I’m the dead tree that is about to kill you.
skwerl88: Damn, that sucks.
Telephone pole: It could have been worse.. You hit me instead of the lady with her kid in the stroller.
