What's your opinion on tattoos?

Asked by Roughdraft76 (219points) March 13th, 2008 from iPhone

I have a little ink done and plan on getting more. Does the idea of somebody with noticeable tattoos quicken your judgement on that person to be something other than expressive?

its sort of the norm for some if your really into getting inked or around people that are inked up or just where you live. I got some done to express myself and they mean a lot to me. The are in plain view but can be easily covered up when need be. Judge me for my content and not just my cover.

I love them. I only have one now, but I think they look great. Most of the time they are special to the people they are on as well, which I find awesome. I’m having the same question going through my head as well though. I want to get tattoos on my wrists but I’m a little worried about the lack of cover that can go there.

I have one on my wrist and no one ever sees it!

I think they are awesome if done by a good artist. I have a few and do plan on adding to them. I chose to put them on my legs so they could be covered if need be. There are many people out there who do judge, and thinking of job opportunitys was a huge reason I put them where they can be covered. I did find that before I had a tattoo I didn’t really think of them much on others, but now that I do I notice them more on others and always compliment them. I don’t judge them even if I don’t like it, because it obviously has meaning to them enough to have it the rest of their life.

I think they are potentially great. Alot of people manage to make them look terrible and tasteless. I also think the tattooless are the minority now. So the quickest way to rebel against society now is to not get any ink.

“Man, that dude is crazy!”

I also think the coming generation is all going to have tattoos as professionals. Which you can see changing right now as the old batch is weeding out and retiring. For example, it’s not uncommon for me to see police officers with full sleeves every now and then. It’s a new norm in it’s infancy that our parents generation don’t have the scope to comprehend.

I am so used to them, I dont even notice them anymore. However I am a tattoo artist so that may be why.

I don’t mind or judge, however, they make me wish I was a doctor in the tattoo removal bu$iness, especially in the next 30–40 years as this generation enters retirement.

Why would anyone want to hang a picture on their bodies that they would never hang on their walls at home? And a permanent picture at that. Most tattoos are lame and after looking at them a few times the novelty soon wears off. I would almost guarantee that most young people who get tatts later regret it. Just my 2 cents.

I concur with Spargett – they’re potentially great, but so many of them are ugly or tasteless.

If you’re going to have permanent art on your body, make it beautiful, meaningful art.

Someone did an experiment with this once. In a nutshell, it was discovered that people were more likely to engage in conversation with a stranger who had tattoos than one that didn’t. Not sure it was completely scientific, but I thought it was interesting. I personally love my tats and I know I do tend to gravitate towards other people who have them. I think they’re sexy as heck!
