Can you purchase one of the new acne medications? Such as Proactiv?

I used proactive for a year and my skin never improved. I tried over the counter meds, stuck to a strict skin care routine, and kept my hands away from my face, and still had no results. Finally I went to my doctor. She gave me an antibiotic pill to take twice a day. She also prescribed a face pad to sweep over my skin after I washed it. I believe they’re called erythromyicin? This combination of the antibiotics and face pads have significantly improved my skin. And if I do start to get a zit, it usually clears up within a day instead of a week. However, you’re only 14 so your hormones have a lot to do with your acne. And I’m not positive that a doctor will start someone so young on antibiotics without trying other options first. Go to a dermotologist to find out what would work best for you.

Also remember these tips:
-Keep your face clean and exfoliate about once a week to remove dead skin cells that can clog pores.

-If you wear makeup (not sure if you’re a girl) make sure any applicators you’re using to put on powder or foundation are clean.

-Wash your pillowcase a few times a week.

-Never touch or pick at a pimple. It’ll only force more bacteria into an already irritated blemish.

-Drink lots of water. Stay away from sugary soda.

-Get enough sleep at night. I noticed that once I started getting a full 8 hrs of sleep at night, my skin started healing a lot faster.

I’ve tried everything, and Neutrogena RapidClear salicylic acid treatment pads applied 4–5 times/day (particularly after eating) and taking 50mg zinc supplements/day has been the only thing that has worked for me.

It’s horrible to have to deal with acne. If it’s very bad, you could try talking to your GP about taking an anti-biotic. The tips given by others are great. I hope it clears up sometime soon for you,

make sure you wash your face every night and every morning. i used to think that if i wasn’t wearing makeup, the natural oils were probably not bad for my skin so i would skip washing in the morning or night frequently. and since i started doing every morning and night i very rarely get a pimple. sure a few here and there but it’s significantly less. that’s really all i can contribute. acne sucks :(

I have the same problem too, I usually just cleanse, and tone and then scrub once a week. But my friends always say it doesnt show, I have black skin.

Apple cider vinegar.

Accutane is probably the most effective of all prescription medications, but it also comes with lots of side effects that many people can’t tolerate. It is also teratogenic (meaning, it causes birth defects), so women who take it need to be very careful about sex and birth control.

@lloydbird – I tried apple cider vinegar, and it did work pretty well, but it made me extremely fatigued and tired. Very groggy, like I had taken a bunch of sleeping pills the night before. I read it also lowers blood pressure a ton, so maybe that was it. But either way, I can’t keep taking that stuff. Maybe once a week, though?

@mirifique ”..and it did work pretty well..” sounds like an endorsement to me. How come you are so sure that the fatigue/tiredness that you mention is caused by the vinegar? Have you examined other aspects of your lifestyle to determine if there might be some causation?
