What are some good flowers to plant for my dog who passed away?
My dog had to be put down today. We have no idea what was wrong with him, but the vet said he was going to cost too much to be helped…and that it was a “lost cause.” Anyway, we found him in my moms garden and now my mom wants to plant flowers there for him. What are some kinds of flowers to plant for his passing? My mom is thinking a rose bush, but roses are too cliched in my book. Do you know any good sites that tell the meanings of flowers? :( He was our dog for ten years!

My condolences. That is always an event to crack your heart.
What kind of dog? What was his name, coloration, habits, endearing traits, etc? I like the idea of a small flowering bush. They endure whereas flowers often have a finite life.
“Rosemary for Remembrance.”
His name was Sid. He was like a light brown I don’t know what dog. He was a good guard dog, and he was just a sweetie all around. :( We got him from our neighbors dog who had puppies before he moved.
Big, little, medium; furry, clipped, wire-haired; smart, slow, genius?
I’d plant something perennial—something that flowers every year. Something fragrant. How about jasmine?
I’m sorry for your loss.
Ouch, my heart goes out to you and Sid.
I’m with @Jeruba, perennials are wonderful reminders. Poppies and daisies can be “doggy” for their simplicity.
If you want something substantial, how about a weeping cherry or weeping birch? They are small trees and very beautiful.
For a less expensive memory, plant the seeds of Forget-me-nots.” They like dappled shade and somewhat moist soil and one packet of seed will eventually spread for dozens of square feet. A beautiful light blue, pink or white spring-flowering little guy. Pix.
I’m so sorry.
Hydrangeas are those big beautiful blue round blossoms and I planted one for my cat Venus. Make sure you plant it in partial sun, the full sun will burn it, but you can get them that bloom on the old shoots as well as the new ones, and can get 6 ft high.
I’m afraid I don’t know much about flowers but just wanted to express my heartfelt condolences.
It kind of depends on the climate and soil where you live. On the back of seed packets you can get information about the climate best suited for a plant. You can look up zone maps online. Other things to keep in mind are if the spot is full sun, partly shady, or full shade.
I am sorry for you loss. I love lupines and azalea bushes .
My heart goes out to you. I have lost furry friends in the past and it doesn’t get easier.
As for flowers/plants I have planted out forget-me-nots which are in flower right now, and also a Kilmarnock willow. Lovely reminders of my beloved dog.
I’m so sorry for your loss. :’(
Might I suggest planting a Dog Rose ?
I was going to say what @YARNLADY mentioned…Dogwood!
You can find them in pink or white, they are slow growing smaller trees and are just beautiful.
