Those of you who close accounts and open new ones with different names, why?

I liked the old fluther – I find the whole pursuit of lurve frustrating, annoying and worst of all distracting. I just want to ask a question, get an answer and write and chat.

I do understand the need for this change here. I really do. Look at al the kids it’s brought on board. But I find the lights and sounds and awards and lurve a bit like a pinball game. My eye keeps wandering to the right, did I get a GQ or GA? Am I in the mansion? Did I remember to congratulate the umpteenth person for the umpteenth time?

I mean no disrespect to Andrew et al. They know my feelings on the subject by now – my fourth incarnation. To each his own, and if you like lurve and stuff – that’s great.

Me, well, I thought I’d make it to 10k this time but I freaked again.

So I’ll be the little Yiddish zen for a while: zenele.

Some people might do it so they can give their friends more lurve, but I am just speculating – I don’t really know of any.

Sorry @SuperMouse for derailing! It didn’t take long to figure out the whole Zen situation, but I’m confused on other threads when “new” users crop up and people seem to know they are existing users under another guise. They seem to be suggesting that some jellies pop in as another user so they can make rude comments, then disappear. If that is the case, it seems like very bad form to me.

@SuperMouse Er…..what about Zenboni, Zentherewas, Zenderella, or Zentionnite.

I’ve heard of people doing that – I can understand it – like cheating on video games and getting the tricks instead of figuring them out.

I heard that some people take some online games so seriously as to pay real money for rewards and stuff – but I’ve never played any of those role-playing games.

In all, the core group here could care less about lurve – sure they joke about it and play lurve-whore and such – but would anyone seriously waste their precious time and sign in as different people, ask questions and answers as if they are someone else? Not the real jellies.

@zenele I always thought if you got enough Lurve you could advance from user to staff…I’m hoping when I get +30,000 points that I’ll have enough influence to do so.

Markyy just became a mod and he has very little lurve. One thing has nothing to do with the other I think.

@talljasperman None of the 30’kers, nor 20’kers (with the exception of @augustlan) are mods or staff. I think you’ll get noticed more by the staff for 1 good flag than a couple thousand lurve.

To answer the Q.

I’ve never been anyone else but me. I’d be afraid I’d forget the new name so I just hang on to the same one, monotonous tho it may be.

I do know that we do have the option to create another acct. if we want to answer a Q or create one which deals with confidential or sensitive subjects but not to act like a sock puppet or game the system. They will delete you for that and rightfully so.

To give an example from a while ago, someone posted a Q about abortion and spoke in detail about her experience. She was upfront about the fact that she had created a different acct from her usual one.

That reminds me too, there was someone else discussing the addiction issues of someone close to him and wanted to remain anonymous about it.

But he chose the name ZenListener. Confused the heck out of me cuz it didn’t sound at all like the wackjob Zen whom we all know and love :) Totally different writing style.

But I PMd just to check on the name coincidence and he gave me enough info to put the pieces together. No further details necessary. And, no, it was NOT the Zen of many incarnations. Someone totally different.

Anyhow, I think that’s likely the most common reason for different names. There are probably a bunch of various different others also.

But no one even comes close to zenele, Mr. Allergic-to-lurve himself :)

I think @zenele is just trying to create his own army of elite Flutherers.

I too get confused when people switch names (and it isn’t obvious) and some people seem to know who is who and I have no idea. I appreciate it when they give me a heads up, makes my confusion factor even out a bit. I’ve had a lot of that lately, haha.

I didn’t want to be associated with the shit I asked and commented on with my old account, and I also had some personal stuff going on that I didn’t want Fluther involved with.

I have never thought about burning my house to the ground to rebuild as another. How else will I know who I am pissing off? While some are famous for looking cute and singing silly songs some of us are infamous for nothing more than a persoan maxim, but the unfamous people always seem to get remembered way more than just the famous by a large account. I always thought it would be neat to be the longest runing jelly with the fewest Flurerites, but since I can’t stiop them from adding me and won’t be rude to tell them not to I will just have low numbers but not low enough for any records oh, they don’t have a badge for that…..something to think about creating, the Davey Jones Locker badge or the Sunken MOB SteamerTrunk badge. :-)

@AstroChuck Hadn’t thought of that. But I do keep the avatar and a variation of zen – so it’s not confusing for my friends – and for those who think I’m new again – well, that’s fine too.

Maybe I hadn’t thought of that because I don’t think of it as resetting my awards and lurve, I just get frustrated (this time it was near 10k by chance) and delete out of frustration. Then I come back. But your way makes sense.
