Where do you go, or what do you do when things get a bit too much?

when you need a break from the world, when you get angry or sad and want some time to calm down what do you like to do or where do you like to go?
I love to go for a really long bath with lots of bubbles, candles and music.

The place where I live of course, that is the only place of peace we have (or should have at least).
I don’t usually need a break from the world. Home is always my favorite place to be.
I like your bath idea, but thats not for me. i usually go sit in my car and pop in my favorite CD, Booker T. and The Mgs. i get into the music and soon my calmness soon comes back to me. my car is my “think tank”. i have made a lot of serious decisions in that vehicle.
To each his own.
I go for a drive and listen to music or sleep or kill people in video games.
@Blackberry I like to bang hookers in GTA, let them out of the car and then run them over to get my money back. XD
@Vunessuh Lol! Oh yes I remember that, it’s been awhile since I played GTA. I always used to do the code to make cars fly and get in a tank…...
When I was a little girl, I would climb up into the big oak tree with a book and sit and read for hours. Now, I take a long walk – ususally down to the ocean – at a fast clip.
I watch movies. In fact, in less than two months, I have watched 25 new movies.
@Vunessuh: I used to do that too.. until I lost the original version and had to get the censored version. Blech… lol
I take my dogs for a long walk on the moors. They listen to me, don’t ever talk back, and agree with everything I say. Problem solved.
@poofandmook Censored version? What is this nonsense you speak of? GTA has a censored version? I never knew. Does it limit what you can do as far as violence and sex goes? That sucks.
There’s a park near my apartment building where Brooklyn meets the East River and one can sit there on a boulder, be quiet and throw rocks into the water.
I go down by the water and stew….or I go for a walk in the woods, but then I do that every day.It keeps things in check :)
@Vunessuh: San Andreas has a censored version that cuts out the “banging” in the car. You can do it, but the “scene” of the car rocking is removed. The original was pulled from shelves and the censored version is now the only one available in retail.
I like the way alot of people will go down to areas of water, I also love to do this being a marine biologist I obviously love the sea. I love how the presence of water really opens up a space giving better views and allowing you to gain a perspective on things.
@john65pennington I have recently passed my driving test and going to get a car at the end of this month. maybe I will start going for nice drives with some good music and stuff like that to get away from things too. I like that idea.
Pluggin in my blue baby Stratocaster and turning the amp to 11 usually does the trick. If the situation is particularly intense or at work I will go for a walk and follow that up with a drive up river in the boat in the summer after work or off season a swim at the pool. 40 laps will dial down the worst of bad mojo attitudes.
I go to the gym and run as long and hard as I can. For me my best runs have been when I was really ticked off.
I have a small stream in my woods. There I can sit on a meditation bench and listen to the water as it plashes over rocks and down declines, hear the birds, and watch Milo pretend to be brave as he dashes to and fro but always checking to see that I am still there.
@jjmah: That is lovely; do you have a guest bedroom?
@gailcalled That would be Lake Chipican. It’s about a 10 minute walk from my place. I tend to stop off at a Tim Horton’s (coffee shop) and grab myself a steeped tea with a bit of milk, then, I walk down to the lake. My blue heron is a permanent resident there.
@jjmah: I love that heron. He is probably a cousin to the one that fishes in the pond that I share with my neighbors. Why do I never have my camera with me when he is around? Have you noticed that he flies like a pterodactyl and walks in the water like a ballerina?
unfortunately i eat and sulk. sometimes i take a bath. sometimes i go to the park. if its nice out, i lay in the sun and that always seems to melt away my problems a little easier when i realize how beautiful the world is and how lucky i am. also the creek that runs through town is good for that too.
PS: Here is Milo near my stream (and me). Mini-daffs are called tête-á-tête
Am I the only one who does not have the need to get away? I must be very lucky as thinks never get a bit too much. I can’t even recall walking out because i needed to get away. Suppressed emotions or just lucky I’m going with luck.
I go to bed if I am tired.
@worriedguy I dont necessarily mean getting away as in being in a bad mood although sometimes that can be part of it, its just nice sometimes to get some time to yourself, just to let your mind wander without anyone else around. your own place where you feel relaxed.
I try to find a secluded spot with a large body of water. One such place is called Hamlin Beach, on Lake Ontario. It’s crowded in the summer, but pretty empty in the fall and winter. It’s a good place to just sit and meditate.
Somebody has put a lovely platform down in the woods on the lake near my house. I’ts a great place to sit and ponder; was even better when I had gormless Prince as my companion.
I watch movies in the bedroom, one of mine usually.
@janbb: Prince; Alev Hasholem. Next time get a gormful dog.
@gailcalled I have many gormful people in my life; it was great having one gormless cuddler.
I go out for a long walk with my dog.
First Choice: Long hot shower
Second Choice: browse my photo albums.
Third choice: watch family vacation videos
I like to go to the roof of a building in my neighborhood. There’s a flight of very rickety stairs that lead up there, and a low wall that runs around the edge of the roof. That part of my neighborhood has a kind of run-down, industrial feel to it. I love to go up there at night, especially during the spring and summer, and smoke. Ahhhh, it’s so relaxing.
But the first thing I thought of when I saw this question was:
When you’re alone
And life is making you lonely,
You can always go… downtown
What an earworm. Now that it’s stuck in my head for the next 2 weeks, I just thought I’d share.
My first choice is to jump a plane and head home to be with friends for a few days but that’s rarely an option so I end up going home and trying to take a nap after a bath and listening to good music.
go for a walk in the woods nearby.
Can be either short or long depends on how you feel when you get there.
Commune with nature. The world is bigger than you may think.
Pick up a camera along with you. Take unsual pictures, of nature and it wonders.
