How can I stop Parallels from screwing up my CD drive?

Asked by kfingerman (1012points) May 19th, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and the most recent Parallels. The problem is whenever the virtual machine is running (or even suspended) it holds onto my CD/DVD drive and won’t let go. When I put a DVD in, the Mac doesn’t recognize it. I don’t want to have to do a hard shut down on the Windows “side” of my machine to listen to a CD, watch a movie, or otherwise use the CD drive. I’m sure there’s a setting somewhere to “release” the CD drive or something. Where???

no idea, tried VirtualBox? I use it to run windows inside Ubuntu for testing purposes occasionally and I don’t get this problem…

You should see a Devices menu in the Parallels menu bar. Under that find CD/DVD, and choose Disconnect.
