It isn’t the same for everyone, johanna. Unless your tastes were the same as mine, my thoughts would be irrelevant.

If you would list your preferences, you might get more helpful answers. Good luck.

@MissA
That’s the general idea though – I want to know what others think, and why, based on their perspectives. If I wanted answers based on my preferences I would have asked.
But thanks….

California

What better place? California is the most diverse state in the country in terms of people and in terms of geography. In what other state can you enjoy warm sunny palm-tree lined beaches and then head northeast through the dry desert to the snow-capped mountains for skiing, and then pass through agricultural plains on your way to the redwoods?

No other state, that’s what! California has it all. They’re something for everyone here. Great weather in much of the state, tons to do, big cities, rural towns, etc. It can be a bit expensive in some parts, but it’s worth it. :)

Nashville, Tennessee. do not let the flooding sway your mind. Nashville is an excellent place to live and raise your children. i have lived here all my life. we have the four seasons of weather. it snows about three times a year. we have more sunshine than the state of Florida. the economy is great. taxes are about average. crime rate is below the national average. we have three beautiful lakes to fish and swim. we have one of the nations very few 5-star hotels, Opryland Hotel. if you like music, all kinds of music, then Nashville is for you. this may sound like an advertisement from the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, but its not. its from a person that knows first-hand what a good city is suppose to be and Nashville is it. many, many people from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana have moved to Nashville, after making just one visit. we have affordable housing and some of the best manners on earth.

Not Michigan.

The Northeast or Northwest. There is not insane weather extremes, both are pretty nice and democratic, educated and nature oriented, and both have beaches.

Nowhere, I am really scared of going to the USA, all because of Bush!

YARNLADY's avatar

@Thesexier That doesn’t make sense – which Bush? You do know there is no Bush in political office right now, don’t you?

If I could live anywhere in the US I would live in Chicago. Horrible weather but I love the city.

@DominicX Seriously, where’s the tilde?

@YARNLADY , yes I know that he isn’t ruling over anything any more, but I am still really scared of even visiting the country

@munizedward Hey, welcome to Fluther. Great answer. Let me just add that my own state of Massachusetts isn’t a bad spot, either. We’re the second safest state when it comes to low death rate from natural disasters, have a very high per capita income, great schools and a number of the highest rated universities in the entire world.
