What exactly is the purpose of the "topics" area required on questions?

The topics help bring the right people to the right question, because Fluther recommends questions to us based on our ‘fields of expertise’. Some of us only look at the recommended questions.

I am sure the Mods don’t like too much tomfoolery in the topics section, but I got away with This

I don’t think using the Topics area for humor is a good idea. It is how the database sorts questions.

It’s for worshipping the godess Jeruba.

We use the topics to recommend questions to people, along with other things behind the scenes. Thanks to all the people who make sure they’re topics are relevant; you’re making the experience better for everyone.

Yeah, they’re search tags for when people do searches on here, so the question will pop up when certain things are entered…I’ll admit though, I always write something lame in an attempt to get attention because I’m sad and lonely and there are wolves after me.

There tags just like FireMadeFlesh said it is based on our “field of expertise.” It gives you questions that are more related to you then to someone totally different then you. It helps you tremendous ways to, instead of scrolling through page after page after page of questions, the question will be right there for you under the “Questions for you” tab located at the top right corner.

I’VE BEEN TOLD TO STOP MY JERUBA TOPICS THING I HAD BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS. NO ReASON WAS GIVEN, BUT I CAN IMAGINE ITS SO FLUTHER’S TOPICS WILL MAKE SENSE IN GOOGLE SEARCHES AND STUFF. IT’S OKAY.

@zenele Perhaps you can figure out a little line to close your question with that only you and your beloved will understand to celebrate your fondness for her. My sig other and I have codes we use and it works well.
