Why is it that after I put a Great Answer, it throws me to the top of the question?
This is really annoying if you are down pretty far in a thread. All so you can see “Marked Great Answer”? That’s ridiculous!

It sounds like you need to clear your browser cache; if you need help, let me know. That shouldn’t be happening – we didn’t implement this “feature”!
It happens to me a lot too. Since it tells you that you “Marked a Great Answer!” it does seem like a Fluther feature; otherwise why would it do that?
I also don’t like the going up to the top ofthe page after you’ve removed a question in a series you are trying to remove.
Ahh that sounds like javascript hasn’t loaded so it refreshes the whole page since it hasn’t loaded the code to mark the great answer without reloading yet. Are you on dial-up or slower internet?
I just asked this question a couple days ago, haha.
Clearing my cache worked wonderfully.
How do you clear your cache? Is it the same as clearing recent history?
No it’s not the same. Although one should do that every so often as well. Not sure really what cache means.
I’m using Firefox. In Firefox you go to Tools – Options – Advanced Tab – Clear Now .
In IE. “1.From the Safety menu in the upper right, click Delete Browsing History… .
2.Deselect (i.e., uncheck) Preserve Favorites website data, and select (i.e., check) Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History.
3.Click Delete.”
The “Marked Great Answer” alert is for users who are using a browser that doesn’t support all of our features.
@richardhenry Ah – I may have gotten it. I’m using Windows Explorer; just went to “Tools” then Internet Options and deleted the “browsing history” and the “temporary internet files’. That seems to have cleared it.
@Jeruba @marinelife Try that if you are using Windows.
@richardhenry Well I was getting the alert and then cleared my cache and it stopped. I’m pretty sure I get all of the features. So perhaps that is a secondary issue?
I am using Firefox. I will try clearing the cache.
Does anyone know how I can fix it if I’m using Safari?
The preview box stopped working for me as well. =/
I found it. @RedPowerLady. One step is missing in your path:
In Firefox you go to Tools > Options > Advanced Tab > Network tab > Clear Now.
Now I’ll GA you and see what happens. Thanks!
[Edit] Hurray! I just hope I didn’t lose anything I’m going to miss.
@Jeruba You are so right, my sincere apologies :)
Holding down “Shift” while refreshing the page should work too.
This is interesting, because this only happens to me if I’m in a really long thread. Never happens in a shorter one. Why would that be?
@augustlan The code to mark great answers without reloading the page has to wait for the whole page to load before it can attach itself to all the links. On longer pages it’s more likely you’ll click great answer before it’s ready. We’re about to make some technical changes that could allow us to load the code beforehand and attach to each link as it comes in—which I think would solve the problem but I’m not 100% sure (http://api.jquery.com/live/ for the curious).
Happens to me all the time. I’m a computer illiterate using Firefox. I don’t know clearing a cache from mucking out a barn.
