Where is a good place to download some license-free music, for free?

Asked by RocketSquid (3486points) May 20th, 2010

I have a casual animation project I’d like to set some music to, but I don’t have the talent to write my own, and since it’s not anything major I’d rather not spend money I don’t have to. Usually I’d just grab any old song for a hobby project, but if this one goes good, I may show it to someone who could possibly be interested in putting on the air.

Define “license free”.

I suspect that you actually don’t want to pay royalties for the music you use. If that is the case, check out CCmixter and Jamendo – there is just so much music there that you can use for free – all you need to do is credit the artist and honour their licensing terms (like giving credit where it’s due, etc…)

www.archive.org

Search > audio > netlabels

all the labels on there have free music that’s usable under the creative commons license afaik.

Flashkit.com has quite a variety of free loops and such that can be used in animations. I think individual creators have their own license agreement type things, though, so read the fine print when you download.
