When should I buy a macbook pro?

Asked by freaksgeeks (25points) May 26th, 2010

I’m looking to purchase a new MacBook Pro but I would hate to buy and then have a new one come out next month or something! When is the best time to buy?

The new ones just came out this month. Go ahead and pull the trigger. here are the current prices at different retailers. Back to school discount are in effect now in case you qualify.

@timtrueman That’s a great link!

I bought my MacBook Pro last summer, and they had a lot of discounts and deals going on. I got a free iPod Touch for buying it, and I could’ve gotten a free printer, too. The link @timtrueman gave says now is a good time to buy a MacBook Pro; I don’t think you have to worry that much about a replacement coming out too soon.

Just be careful when you buy. If you get it straight from the Apple store or online, you’ll get all sorts of discounts on items like cases. However, you will not be able to return any of them if you don’t like them. I ended up with a $40 laptop case I didn’t like, and now it’s collecting dust in my basement after unsuccessfully trying to sell it on eBay for a month.

Wait at least two more months. That way they will be cheaper and you will be sure thats what you want. Who knows they might come out with something better!!!

@evan742 doesn’t really know what they are talking about (no offense).

1. Apple will not lower their prices any time soon (they rarely do and if so only after the introduction of a new model which isn’t going to happen for a while)
2. New models just came out
3. They’ve been out for long enough for them to have fixed any minor manufacturing issues they may have had with the first batches.

Now is pretty much the best time to buy.

@timtrueman I wonder if holding off just another couple of weeks or so to see how the Arrandale chip supply situation pans out.
Then again, Apple is kind of like oil companies; once gas prices go up, they never come down, the profit margin just widens. Therefore, if the prices on the CPUs come down, it is unlikely that Apple will pass the savings on to anybody except themselves.
