What is the cheapest (working) solution to split an HDMI signal into and HDMI and component signal?

Asked by fortris (683points) May 27th, 2010

I need to take an HDMI signal from my xbox and split it to HDMI (my tv) and component (my pvr) I found a passive HDMI splitter for $7, but that doesn’t seem to work all the time and I found an HDMI to component cable for $15.

Why not HDMI in to the TV, and component out from TV to PVR? That way you know that the signal isn’t being modified the way it is with an active splitter, and you don’t have the inconsistency problems you seem to have with the passive one.

@dpworkin I don’t have a component out on my TV, I really wish I did.

What happens when you use the cable?

Or RF out to the PVR?

The PVR has a component imput, its not a RF receiver. I only use it to record xbox. Its a Happauge HDPVR

Amazon sells cables under its own name for electronics. Maybe you should page through what they have. It’s good quality, and the prices couldn’t be better.
