Where is Your Favorite U.S.A. Climate?

Asked by GrumpyGram (830points) May 28th, 2010

If you could magically transport yourself to a different location in America, just for the climate, where would that be? I’d choose northern California or northwest Arkansas.

I will second Alaska.

Pacific Northwest….temperate (and misty/rainy) for a lot of the year. Not severe anything usually…which is why it’s to my liking.

Pacific Northwest for sure. Rain, clouds, coolness.
I’ve been in San Diego since the summer of ‘97. There are about 4 months in the year that have decent weather for me.

The nice ones.

San Diego for me. 60–70’s and sunny all year!

Can I choose different places for different seasons, or do I need to stay at the same place year-round?

GrumpyGram's avatar

@Primobabe Just one place year ‘round. LOL !!

@GrumpyGram Oh, okay. I’ll stay right where I am, near Washington, DC. The winters aren’t severe (snow is very rare and memorable), springtime and autumn are gorgeous, and the summer’s hot and sunny (I love the heat; it’s never “too hot” for me).

@Primobabe Snow is very rare in DC??? Strange. I’m from NJ and we had LOTS of it every single winter. If you love heat, try Texas! It’s like living in a sauna June to October. ))-:

Extreme northern California seems to have a fairly constant and pleasant temperature all year long. I liked it there.

@GrumpyGram Yes, snow is extremely rare. We often go several years without any measurable snowfall. People still talk about “the blizzard of ‘79” or “the storm of ‘96.” That’s why this past winter was so news-worthy and got national media coverage; it was an anomoly that surprised everyone.

Kauai, HI. It’s touted as the greenest and wetest spot on earth and I love it! Rain just about every morning before the sun rises, high temps of near 80’s, fruits, vegies and flowers galore.

As much as I’d like to say San Diego, it’s almost too perfect. Need some change.

That’s why I like Boston (where I am) – but the Summer is sticky and snow is losing it’s appeal as I get older.

Is it autumn year ‘round anywhere? If so, I think I should move there.

I know this is going to sound crazy but.. The Northeast.

We got all 4 seasons in Jersey.
Gorgeous, warm, and somewhat rainy weather in the Spring.
Hot, way too hot, humid days and really warm lovely Summer nights.
Chilly but not-too-cold Autumn days. Plus seeing the leaves changing is wonderful.
Super cold, super snowy winters filled with snowmen and igloos plus we had lots of snow-days!

Aside from the humidity I have to admit, there is nothing like experiencing all four seasons.

@GrumpyGram…..I agree about the Texas remark. I spent a “winter” there last year…but there is no winter, really. By the end of March, it was so hot I couldn’t wait to get out of there. There just is no relief. It’s a great state, and you do have four seasons: hot, hotter, hottest and hotter than Hades.

(I can say that as I was born and raised there, okay? LOL!) To be honest, it seems to be even hotter now. There are stinging hot winds that just are eerie…and I don’t mean out of the State capitol building either.

berkeley. i would say of the time i’ve spent there, 99% of it was blue skies and sunny, and around 70 degrees. no humidity. i know it’s different in SF itself…usually cloudier, foggier, and ten degrees cooler or so. which isn’t bad either.
