Before humans knew that brains are where thoughts come from, did they gesture "think" by pointing to our touching their heads?

if humans did not know that the brain is where thoughts come from. and they did indeed touch their foreheads, or sides of their heads when talking about thinking as a gesture, why would they do this? did they do this?
