Did it really make all that much difference in the utility bills? What part of the country are you in?

I have not. I had the power company come and inspect and make suggestions on lowering power bills. They said mine were so low they did not recommend any changes at all. SE USA
Hi, Yarnlady. Yes, I replaced my (1942 casement) windows with double-pane windows. My electric bills dropped by about 30%. During the winter, I shored-up the old casement windows with storm windows; now, I don’t need to make any seasonal adjustments.
If you live anywhere where outside temperatures get much higher or much lower than the inside temperature you wish to maintain, then you will benefit greatly from replacing single pane windows with double pane windows. Making sure you seal up drafty doors and vents will help too. The more moderately you heat or air condition your home, the less energy you will waste.
I did what Primobabe did (over several years) and cut my heat bill by about 40 per cent.
I also never heat rooms I’m not in.
I’m doing it a room at a time. I’ve not seen a difference in the bills yet, but the comfort factor is noticeable.
I’ve only done it in one room, and what a difference it’s made in there! Not only the temperature, but the noise situation (we live on a busy street) has improved tremendously.
@augustlan I’m hoping that will make a big difference too, for the same reason.
@YARNLADY I highly recommend it. If I could afford it, I’d have it all done at once!
Yes we did. I lived by the beach and it helped reduce moisture in the house, along with keeping the house warmer and quieter. I say do it.
Don’t forget the “Low E” coating and or rating also….
