What was the first civilization?
I have read that Sumerians came before Egyptians, however, I have also read (by allegation) that there was a People who taught the Egyptians, and apparently was NOT the Sumerians.

I believe the very first civilization were the Ashurai which are the people of ancient Mesopotamia then would come the Egyptians
Great answer, I haven’t looked much into Ashur, but as I just researched, they were of Assyria. Which came much later in time. Although, you pretty much assured me that Sumerians were in fact prior to Egyptians. Thank you.
I think it was the mysterious Green Horn society.
I assume you are talking about Western or Middle Eastern Civilization since China preadated any of these. If you are, this article on Old Babylonia’s evolution should help you.
@janbb: many cultures no doubt predated civilization, but the word generally refers to urban society. In that sense, Mesopotamia seems to generally be regarded as the first.
This article dates Mesopotamia and Egypt as the earliest civilizations and China as the longest continuous civilization.
@deadleaf In addition to the Sumerians, a number of other groups such as the Hittites and Assyrians participated in Babylonian civilization at various times

The capital city of Gaziantep Province, also called Antep, is the oldest city that’s still standing, with a history dating back to the Hittites period. It was continually inhabited ever since the Paleolithic age. The Hittites were an ancient Anatolian people who spoke a language of the Anatolian branch of the Indo-European language family and established a kingdom centered at Hattusa in north-central Anatolia.
