Jason Voorhees, the killer dude with the hockey mask, yay or nay, fan or not?
Do you like the Friday the Thirteenth series? Did you know he used to wear a bag over his head instead of a mask in the beginning? You know he never actually wielded a chainsaw? Did you enjoy them in the eighties, do you like the remakes and spinoffs? Dumb fun, great sleepover material, or do you totally despise it? What’s your favourite one, what’s your favourite kill, who would win in a fight, him or Princess zelda?

I liked the 8-bit video game. The movies are meh. Zelda would kick his undead ass.
The thing I don’t understand about Jason is this: if he’s dead since he was a boy, then how the hell did he grow to an adult?
Other than that, I never really got into the series. I might’ve seen a few movies when they were having a marathon on TV when I was a kid. It seems too much work for me just to find and watch all of these movies, and no, I don’t feel like buying the complete boxset. I’m more of a Freddy Krueger fan anyway :)

Great fun, but I prefer my villains with a bit more subtlety and intelligence. A Vladimir Harkonnen or Lord Valdimort.
I’ll put money on Princess Zelda.
I’m with @Michael_Huntington. Parts of it just didn’t make sense to me.
I didn’t really like the movies. I got bored.
I’m team Freddy.
Nay. Not a fan of Jason. They made about 10 or so too many Friday the 13th movies. A sequel or two could be acceptable, maybe, but almost a dozen of them? Not.
Jason had died in childhood, and the killer was Jason’s demented mother. Mom died at the end of the original movie. When the sequel siren came beckoning, however, the creators changed the whole premise and turned Jason into a living, killing monster.
I do like the mask though; wore a similar one playing goalie in the late 60’s. ;o)
I remember my whole goal in my childhood was to get a hockey mask. And a PS2
I painted stitches on mine for every face-stop I made. Just like my idol Gerry Cheevers. (I still wear a #30 black jersey to B’s games).
Never really into “slasher” films, prefer my horror films to have a story, maybe some decent effects etc. LOVE this one and this
I like them to have atmosphere you can lose yourself in, and I know it didn’t go down well at the box office but I really did love The Haunting even though the original version is still better.
hugglys all xx
@bunnygrl That’s my preferred horror type also. A real plot, not just pop up and slash the screaming bimbos. Although Hitchcock did a superb job with the shower scene in “Psycho”; the limitation of what he could show on screen at the time actually made it better, you had to construct it in your imagination. The film version of DuMaurier’s “The Birds” was also suberb.
The graphic special effects and gallons of fake blood have diminished the horror genre IMHO, But I’m a dinosaur (T. Rex~).
@stranger_in_a_strange_land well then I’m a dinosaur too lol. I agree, horror is far more effective when your brain has to fill in the blanks. The monster you can’t see is far more frightening than the monster you do. I’ve been watching some episodes of the original series (in black and white) of the Twilight Zone recently, wonderful, just wonderful. Good stories, no gore and tons of atmospere.

@bunnygrl When the censorship disappeared in the 70s, producers just cranked up the special effects and nudity, leading to what people think of as horror films today. Only fairly recently has the classical Gothic horror made a comeback. The nudity doesn’t bother me, I’d just prefer to see a nekkid lady showing some intelligence~.
The story about Jason coming back is that he traded his soul to Satan in exchange for avenging his fallen mother. However, Satan is a prick, and won’t let him rest after he’s done so. So if he can’t die, everyone else will. The only definite way to stop him forever was in Jason goes to Hell, but even then he came back again after haha.
And yes I need my stupid teenagers and plastic tits, I totally own the box set.
@bunnygrl – Oh yes! I love the old Twilight Zone! And don’t forget Night Gallery!
@stranger_in_a_strange_land lol :-)
@HungryGuy Night Gallery is amazing!!
It really does says something about tv nowadays that when you sit down to watch something decent its usually a box set of a series filmed years ago. Sad, but true. There are still gems on tv, but its so sad that they are so few and far between.

@bunnygrl – Right. I rarely watch off-the-air TV. Most of what I watch is DVD movies or box sets (Star Trek, Firefly, Twilight Zone, etc.).
@HungryGuy I agree. Series like the original Twilight Zone, The Prisoner (original version), The Champions, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) again the original version, Department S (oh yes, Jason King <sighs>) will never be matched no matter how often they try to re-make them lol. They come from a time when tv production had a certain style, a certain feeling, a lasting quality to it.
What will people remember from this past decade of television? reality dross that shows the worst of human excesses. People willing to trade their dignity for 10 minutes of fame in the big brother house. As I said honey, there are gems to be found, you mentioned Firefly for example, its just a shame you have to look so hard to find them is all.

@bunnygrl @HungryGuy Don’t forget “Night Stalker” with Darrin McGavin. I haven’t watched television for almost 20 years though, don’t even know the names of modern programs.
@Symbeline I only like those kind of films to root for the bad guy. How many screaming plastic-boobed bimbos will he julienne this time? Get out the Stihl 88!!! :^D
stranger_in_a_strange_land Well yeah, Jason is definitely the star. Not once have I ever rooted for anyone but him. ^^
@HungryGuy Hell yeah. And Michael Myers, too. Go go go kill everyone lol
Bimbo slashers rule. All the way back to Hitchcock.
