Can anybody solve my laptop's problem?
I have windows 7 installed on my Laptop.Yesterday when i sat on internet & it started installing updates automatically (as usual).
but today some time before when i started my laptop it was not showing me the desktop icons, desktop theme & also the start bar.
It opens “My computers” directly.
Does anyone know why is this coming?
I have just done system repair but nothing was repaired.
I can’t see the desktop screen,theme,Start bar.
How can i regain all these contents which i am not seeing currently? Please give me some solutions? :(

More details please, sounds a tad simmilar to mine. Maybe screenshots?
Does anything come up when you press the Windows Logo key? (and release it) How about Win+R?
Also, if you press ctrl-alt-del can you run the task manager from the screen that comes up?
(These are not solutions by themselves, but the answers may help us to see what’s going on)
Google lightscreen portable, it’s a great screenshot app, and the few features it has surpases anything else I’ve tried.
I just need a few pics of what’s going on, and more detail of what happens. Does the laptop just do this automatically? Does it mess up when you click stuff? Etc.
@XOIIO :Umm! When i start laptop, as usual first it shows my username. I click my user name then shows “please wait windows is starting” screen.then directly opens “My computer” screen.i can’t see start bar, desktop theme or wallpaper etc.
@davidgro:If Windows key is pressed then nothing happens. but if ctrl-alt-del is pressed task manager screen comes up.
Hmm wierd. I’ve never had that happen.
Have you tried using the task manager to close my computer?
Sounds like the “explorer” process is not running. You can use the task manager to start explorer.exe:
ctrl+alt+del > task manager > File > Run > Type in “explorer” > OK.
PS. If you see explorer.exe already running as a process in task manager, it may be hung, try killing it and restarting it. DS.
this happened to me i googled for hours this worked for me.
Open My Computer.
Go to Tools>>Folder Options>>View.
Under “Hidden Files and Folders”, uncheck “Launch folder windows in a seperate process”.
Reboot and see if this takes care of your problem. do this a couple of times making sure it’s unchecked.
@nisse “My Computer” is an explorer process. Normally the first explorer process to start is the one that becomes the desktop, taskbar, start menu, etc. If an explorer window (My Computer or any other folder) is open when you launch explorer you will just get a second window.
@blinkErri: Try @dealrrr‘s solution, and if that doesn’t work, try @nisse‘s in PS first order: open the task manager, close My Computer, then close any other explorer processes (in the Processes tab, sort the list by name or just keep pressing ‘e’), Then try running explorer and see if it becomes a desktop.
