Why are hotsprings often found near rivers?

Asked by ben (9085points) March 15th, 2008 from iPhone

Is there a logical reason for this, or is it just a coincidence?

I expect it is because there is water available underground for the springs, and the hotsprings and the river are both fed by those underwater water reserves.

I would think that the erosion cause by the river flow cutting down to lower layers of the earth also has something to do with it.
