Kid friendly Caribbean vacation destinations?

Asked by metadog (381points) June 1st, 2010

Hi, we are starting to look at a trip for 2011. 2 adults, a 7 year old and a 12 year old. We are looking for destinations easily accessible from Orlando, FL. We hope to be able to combine a trip to Disney with a island beach trip. Can you suggest any good, safe, kid friendly destinations? We have passports so leaving the US is no big deal. We don’t want a long flight from Orlando (maybe under 2 hours?). Thanks in advance!

It depends on what you mean by ‘kid friendly’. Are they allowed to see people in bikinis? You may want to find a resort because the atmosphere is more tourist and americanized, but you can’t control what happens farther away from it. The bahamas is a regular tourist trap, but outside parts of the atlantis its very ghetto.

Both St. John in the US Virgin Islands and Virgin Gorda in the British Virgins are lovely. On St John, there are set-up campgrounds if you are into camping. Vrigin Gorda has a great little beach called the Baths that has cave structures and rocks that are great fun to explore.

Atlantis is “safe” but quite big and hokey.

Grand Cayman is a good kid destination.

We have done the Disney cruise twice and really liked it. We were looking for a new experience. Maybe a little less Disney, we will be at the parks on that trip for sure.

beaches in turks and caicos—- beautiful place, great for kids (clubs for the kids to play day and night while the adults can party or relax)

Have also been to Beches, Turks & Caicos, and you’re absolutley correct. Most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. =)
