What should I look for in a good credit union?

Asked by shpadoinkle_sue (7188points) June 1st, 2010

I don’t really trust banks anymore and I’m looking for a new credit union. This decision is based on customer service and business practices that doesn’t make me content to stay where I was. What should I look for when checking out a credit union? What I’m looking for is decent customer service. I don’t care about business hours. This is really just for savings. So I think something with a decent interest rate would be good.

I’m looking in the area between Longview and Vancouver, Washington. There isn’t much to choose from and I’m also wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

I can only recommend the one that i use, Old Hickory Credit Union, in Tennessee. go to their website and see why i have been a customer for many years. i think you will be pleasantly surprised.

From my experience with credit unions, they are very selective on who can become a member. Most of the time, you have to live, work, or worship nearby. The best thing you can do is look around your local credit unions to see what’s available for you and which one you would be eligible to join.
