Can I cut charcoal filters to size?

Automiotive charcoal cansiters are filled with particles about 1mm across. Crack the case and they all fall out.
Not sure what kind of filter you are talking about. There is a monolith type filter that looks like a honeycomb. You can cut that shorter if you use a fine blade and don’t care about smooth edges.

Well I cut mine and it worked out.
